Roll cage

Postby S/C4095 » 22 Mon Sep, 2008 7:04 am

This is my first post here and currently working on my new build. Does any one out there have a roll cage from Hawkeye? They are the closest the builder to me here in OK. Also if you have any pics that would be great. Thanks.

I am going to have a local guy here in Albuquerque build my roll cage. Not to cut you off Hawkeye, but... Fabricators are all over the place. Heck a bunch of guys here in Albuquerque can build a Roll Cage. If you have a local racetrack go ask the drivers where they got theirs done!!!

There may be fabricators all over the place, but you may want to reconsider using 'just anyone'. The buggy cage/frame fabricators know not only where to put a bar, but just as important... where NOT to put one. A non-specialized fabricator won't know that if you 'put a bar here', it could hit your leg as you drive. Do they know where exactly to put the bar for the steering shaft? I could go on and on.

I have a cage from hawkeye, but also a frame. With his setup, I dont even need to worry about the body for support. It's like the buggy's original monocoque design is replaced with the frame/cage setup.
you must have pride....in your ride....

I agree with Carlos--------

You need to use the people recomended here in the club.

Both Hawkeye Buggies and Texas Buggys are builders that know what they are doing, the time to find out if somethings works is NOT when you need it to NOT fail.

I recomend them only

ACTUALLY - there are WELDERS all over the place, but very few FABRICATORS. There is a difference, no matter what industry you are involved with. Just my 2 cents...

I have spoken to Neal at Hawkeye on a cage but do not know if any of the ones I have seen on these sites are his style. I do like the one that Texasbuggies show on their site but shipping to Oklahoma or driving down there would be a little high so Hawkeyes is a lot closer. As far as local fabricating goes, like most have posted any one can fab a cage but where and how it goes makes a differencence. Neil bent up my cage and shipped it to Massachusetts. I did some trimming and welded it up myself. Great product and a great price.

Is that a cage from Hawkeye? Also what is the black seal under the windshield on the yellow buggy? I have set my windshield in place and don't like that seam where the dash meets the hood.

Of course this cage is my favorite (not a Hawk) but the guy that built this one is way over priced and kinda nutty ;-)

WoW I stand corrected!

I am sure I can find a person who can build a quality cage here in Albuquerque, as I am sure a person can be found in Oklahoma. You just need to be diligent in your research before you have someone build a Roll Cage for you. That is why I said that you should go to a local racetrack in order to ask around.

I have seen it before but I am going to bring it up again. A fiberglass Dune Buggy is not much more then a safe motorcycle. That is with or without a properly built cage. They are just a blast to build, own, and Drive.

The strip is a rubber windshield seal. Your windshield should have come with one.
