Buggy Weight

Postby Bill K » 14 Wed Jun, 2006 2:48 pm

Many of you may already know this, but I thought I'd pass it along anyway. A friend of mine who owns a local hot rod shop offered to weigh my buggy, and here are the results with a full tank of gas.
Front: 495 #
Rear: 847 #
For a total of 1342 #

That's a lot heavier than I thought. I was told mine weighs around 1000#.
But then again you have more seats and a larger gas tank and a standard shortened chassis where I have a tube chassis with figerglass pans. But then I have a full roll cage so I thought we'd be pretty close. Has anyone else weighed their buggy???

My Fiber Fab weighs 1380#'s. It is an early chasis converted to IRS, Ball Joint, 6 point cage & big disk brakes. You have to have a swing axle, drum brake, no cage car to get below 1300#'s. We have not weighed the Manxter yet. Tom

Our Green Manx must not of weighed much. My 13 year old Nephew would come to visit when we had the buggy and he grabbed the front bumper and he always had fun showing us how he could lift the front tires off the ground. Your saying that yours was 495lbs. I don't think he could lift that by himself.

Yes Patrick,

Maybe it was due to the engine being in the back that he could lift it...

If you want to know exactly, go to a place that sells stone. They weigh your truck before you load it then after to determine the amount of rock you loaded. Just ask them to weigh the buggy on their scale. If they say no, buy a 10 pound rock and they have no choice.
