Yup....plastic zip ties.

Are your pads adjusted? If they are way out then the ebrake won't work.

pads are tight or nearly tight. I'm worried now that I might have cut them too short, in all this. I hooked them up and pulled the handle and got nothing, the cables were slack when I released the break, so I cut them off again and tried once more, same thing second time. So I stopped.

I should have done this before I torqued down the rear hubs, so I could see what I was doing.

I guess if they are too short I have another set, but hate to have to pull everything apart again to run them.

I'll put fluid in when I get back to Texas and try it again.

What kind of primer are you using on your body? I've been reading up on fiberglass work and painting to try and get some ideas on how to tackle my new body. I'm thinking I'm going to try my hand on doing it all myself. A lot of folks seem to swear by several coats of Evercoat polyester and sanding to get the surface smooth again.

My body has old metal flake that is rough to the touch.

Any other good tips or products you used for repairs?

Evercoat G2 on the primer - I've shot it and sanded and shot and sanded several times now. I think I need to go one more time to be safe. Seems like I find a few blemishes everytime I do it.

Go with Rage Gold on the filler, it was very easy to work with.

Yea that's what I've been reading.. did you pick up the evercoat locally? If so, where?

I assume you are spraying it. What type of gun? Does it require reducer or anything like paint does? I'm a noob with this paint stuff.

Wish I could just find where I planted that money tree so I could buy a new painted body and be done with it. Sure would speed up the expected completion date :lol:

I found a local paint place English Color that carried it. I've seen it at Carquest too I think.

Autobodytoolmart has good online prices.

I shot the primer the first time with a crappy old siphon gun. Worked ok for that. I picked up an HVLP gun at lowes I think that I've been using since, it seems to work better. I have not yet shot any paint with it though. I'm thinking of repainting the shrouds with it to try it out.

Yea.. I've read that the Harbor Freight HVLP gun was pretty decent for home projects. Not sure if my air compressor can do the deed though looking at the air requirements.

I been painting for a while (never had any money to pay for it and my dad painted cesna airplanes ) so I have used the hvlp from harbor freight works awsome infact I have shot some expensive chameleon paint with it and it looks as good as a shop does it hand hvlp means high volume low pressure so I wouldnt recomend more than 15-25 pounds at max so any compressor even a pancake can keep up :lol:

Yea the pressure is low, but the CFM requirements are pretty big. The big thing that most people dont pay much attention to is keeping the duty cycle of the compressor low to avoid overheating it. I've heard stats that the compressor should be off for an hour for every thirty minutes of use.

You can probably get away with it if you don't make a habit of it. I've got a fairly sizable compressor, but it doesn't keep up well with high volume air tools.

First couple of coats down. 2 bugs and 2 runs (thankfully both in somewhat hidden spots)

Going to let it dry and take out the bugs and sand out the runs and shoot it all one more time if the weather holds

Cory,
Be sure to read the spec sheet. After a certain amount of dry time I think you need to scuff the entire car before you lay down any more paint.

When it flashes it is still real soft underneath and the new coats fuse to the existing coat via a chemiocal reaction. If the paint is "dry" then you need a bite in the paint to have subsequent coats hold.

If it was justa simple little run the work on your gun speed. If it was like a wall of paint (long horizontal run) then increase your flash times.

Thanks Jeff - I just stopped long enough to eat a slice of pizza - it was still tacky.

Here's a teaser pic - it started to sprinkle so I had to put it in the garage before I could take more pics, its so dark now I can't get a decent picture.

This was after the first coat while I was refilling the gun.

Actually they are all cool with it. I only drag it out on the weekends and everything goes back in the garage at night. The worst of it is all behind me now.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

There are a few areas that I am not satisfied with, so I'm going to be taking some of it back off and starting over. I've got a couple of waves in the passenger side and a divot on the back. Neither are particularly bad, but I'll see them every time I walk by, so I need to fix them now. So I'm going back to body work.

cool color Cory. Beleive it or not that looks just like '07 GM peach blossom orange. That's what color mine was going to be but they mixed up paint numbers and I ended up with something that looks like blood. Gotta go back to the drawing board now. How much paint did yours take?

I bought 3/4 of a gallon of paint, and a quart of activator. I probably still have a half a gallon of paint left, so I probably layed down about a half a gallon mixed. I probably shot a half a dozen thin coats by the time I was done.

It is very similar to the color GM is using, its actually the same paint as jspbtown used on his Manx in the members gallery.

Your in the home stretch! Take my word for it. Once you get the paint done the small things are only left. Its the best time of the build for me. Each night you accomplish something. Not like the paint/bodywork process which seems like you never get anywhere.

No padding. The tunnel and front and back are glued down. The bottom sections have rubber backing and are just laying there. The seats will hold them down, and allow me to lift them to get water out if necessary.

Cory, is that carpet the outdoor carpet that Lowes sells with the rubber backing. The ribbed carpet that is?

The ribbed is a runner. It was about 2 feet wide, and I bought the amount I needed and cut it down. HD sells it by the foot in the carpet section. I didn't think the black that I got for the tunnel would wear well enough, so I didn't use it for the floors.
