This is all new to me but I'm interested in learning, I plan on ordering a new wiring kit and body next winter and building it exactly how I want. Engine runs amazing so it's all cosmetic. Any advice on better headlights ? It's 12v. I can't drive at night well with these even on bright

thanks good info!, also do you know what size my exhast pipes will be i know its either 1 5/8" or 1 1/2" but I havent found out yet, it has a 1972 1600cc dual port engine, it has duals but I want to put a single on it. Thinking an offroad baja type, if you know a link to one that will fit send it my way please, I am new to all of this and still trying to figure it all out!

You likely have 1 1/2" exhaust. 1 5/8" are normally used on bigger displacement engines (anything over 2000cc)
1 5/8 pipes can actually rob a smaller or stock displacement engine of power.

You say you have a 1965 engine. Stock that could be 1200 or 1300 cc's.
Unless your grandad can tell you of any mods he made to the engine; the only way to know for sure what you have is to tear it down.
The fact that it has duals may mean you are slightly larger than stock; maybe 1641 or 1776 again, only one way to be sure. What dual carbs do you have?

Before you do anything regarding carbs, etc., go to the Nac show next weekend, look around, talk to the gang and then make some decisions.

Looking good. You were asking on the Samba about the bikini top from Tiauna Kustoms. I have one and use it often. The problem I have is due to the rake and height of my windshield. The leading edge will pop out in high wind or at high speed. I plan to remedy this by adding a wedge to the from to keep it in the slot. I think the measurement that matters is from the front of the windshield back to the center of your roll bar. It should be I think 39". Go on his site to verify. Also there is two sizes so one may fit better then the other.

How does it buckle down in the back? do you have to put some eye bolts or something?

Yes, you install a couple of eye loops into the back seat area. When I don't use the top I just leave it latched and fold it up behind the front seats.

Where are you testers? There is a guy in San Antonio that made mine and it fits like a glove...custom.
