BuggyRyan is planning to use a Corvair motor in his buggy! My Dad has a Corvair that he will give me. I would have to rebuild it and do a few other things to tone it down so I can use pump gas. I keep thinking that I want I want to build a 5.0 Mustang motor or a 350 Chevy. I don't know...and I have been on the fence so about it so long that a few people here in the club find me a little flaky. Not that I have the funds at the moment either way.......Got a family to raise & the Buggy is on the back bumper!

Just curious. My sister in law just found her a buggy with a corvair engine that needs a little work. How do you find out what year it is...and how cool can they be?

Corvair engines are awesome "old school" horsepower & torque! Their "opposed" 6 cylinders make them a high torque/low rpm engine!
Does her buggy have a Corvair transaxle or a VW transaxle???

Here's a link to my post from awhile back & a couple photos...

They're still trying to figure out a....lot on that buggy right now. She had trouble finding reverse because it was different from mine. It was down and forward rather than down and back. Is that the way a corvair transaxle goes? At the moment she's trying to get all the little kinks out and the wiper motor to work. I think it sat for quite a few years and the guy told her it was originally built 30 years ago in California. Thanks for the help.

Yup... reverse on the Corvair shift pattern is all the way to the left & forward.
It probably has a Hadley TransVair kit!
If it has a TransVair kit, the Corvair engine runs in the stock rotation direction, as it will have the stock Corvair transaxle too!

Corvair

Before we got our first dune buggy we had a corvair. We were members of this club. They can tell you about a Corvair motor or what you need to know. I've kind of forgotten now.
