steering coulumn and seats....

Postby matter396 » 26 Mon Jan, 2009 3:55 pm

Hey ya'll i'm gonna order the flaming river micro tilt steering column, wondering how hard these would be to wire up. Also I am looking for some suspension style seats, that recline and can be fit to sliders, but as we all know they have to be pretty narrow to fit in a buggy. Anybody know what options I have?

Postby matter396 » 26 Mon Jan, 2009 5:29 pm

Hey Chris I still need to get up there and see your ride. It has been crazy at work and the wifes ready to pop so haven't had anytime. I was wondering how you mounted your column. Could you post a couple pics please?

Thanks,
Mike

I've ordered Race Trim suspension seats for mine. Lowbacks. They have sliders but they don't recline, at least the lowbacks don't not sure about the highbacks.

I'm going to put spacers under the fronts of the sliders to get the angle I want.

The lowbacks with headrests are really nice looking, but they are wider than the ones without the headrests.

yeah the lowbacks with headrests do look nice. These are the ones you ordered? They will fit a standard buggy?

No, I ordered the ones without headrests. The others were too wide for mine.

The RaceTrim low-back with headrest is what I used in our buggy along with the sliders. Spaced them up just alittle so they slide back and forth easier. If you would like to see some pictures of how they fit let me know and I can e-mail you some. There is also some pictures of the car on the buggy roundup post event discussion. It's the green el lobo style body.

I used stock VW seats and slider. Also stock VW column. The seats are too tall for that combination. Now I have to remove the cage and column to get the seats out. Then I will have to shorten the seat pedestals by 2".
What a bummer! Don't know if I'll be ready for Fredericksburg now.

For you guys that are using the Race-Trim seats, are they the 19" wide ones or the 21"?

The lowbacks I'm going with are 21"

The ones I really liked with the headrests are 24"

I don't have that kind of room. 21" is going to be tight.

Yea, 21" was looking really tight on mine. I'm thinking about the 18" wide RaceCraft Slim Line's but they are quite a bit more expensive than the Race-Trim.

Those are high backs though aren't they?

I've still got young-uns that will be getting in the back seat occaisionally, with lowbacks I'm thinking it won't be as difficult.

Cory,
No, they are low backs with a nice headrest. Here is a link:

I also like the Corbeau Classic II (but it might be too wide):

And the Corbeau GTA low back (again maybe too wide):

One of these will be in my Deserter buggy...unless something real unique comes up........

Like these Zeppelin seats...COOL!

Oh those are pretty cool. I cancelled my order so I can look around a little yet.

Those zeppelins are cool too - kind of rat roddish.

PRP roadsters are 19" wide and can be ordered in just about any style. That is what I used in my old buggy. Super light too!! Pics can be found in the WWW tab in my signature

In my opinion seats and wheels make the biggest statement on a buggy.

These are the one I used. I had to shorten the mounting brackets by about two inches. They are great when it comes to comfort, They slide and tilt.

I think they are 21 inches wide. I still had room between the seats for the e-brake.

Way cool seats 19in wide and can be done in any color combo. They also have direct bolt on sliders. Marine grade vinyl and cloth inserts if you want. Another cool option. I think these are the ones I am going with, just for something different.
