Welder....?

Postby matter396 » 07 Sat Mar, 2009 9:50 pm

Hey guys thought about buying a welder. Looking at a 110V 25 - 130 amp welder. Have any of you used these 110V welders before? I have used a 220V one and worked great. Didn't know if you think this one would be enough for building a buggy?

I have built many vehicles using a Lincoln 110volt mig welder. Just remember the duty cycle is typically 60%, and make sure you go slow and get good penetration. As always, good prep on the steel is 80% of achieving a good weld.

Instead of creating a new topic, I decided to 'jack this one (sorry matter396).
I own a Lincoln weldpac 100 (110volt) and a Miller Millermatic 251 (220volt) with a spoolgun. I want to step up to TIG welding and found this: EV-SUPER160P (http://www.everlastgenerators.com/EV-Su ... 13-pd.html). Essentially a TIG (even PULSE mode)/Arc/40Amp plasma cutter. Only real difference from a 3K+ Miller unit is it is MOSFET controlled. Even come with a 5 year warranty (if the company stays in business that long). However, since I am a casual user (hobbyist), and the price is a mere $1100.00 USD, I think that it isn't that much of a risk. I guess I am asking if anyone knows of personally, has has personal experience with these Chinese machines? Thanks.
