New Member with first VW

Wanted to say Howdy to all you Bug nuts. I have purchased my first VW Buggy, which I believe is a Boss Bug body on a 1969 pan. I am not sure what engine it has, as I can't match up the engine number with any info that I have found. (D1139544) It is a dual port & has a 34 Pict carb on it & alternator w/ internal regulator. Any help on what I have would be appreciated.

I really got lucky buying this Buggy. I was visiting my daughter in Lubbock when her neighbor across the street rolled this out in the drive & washed it & put a For Sale sign on it w/ a $1000.00 price & a phone #. I called the # for 3 days over Memorial weekend & finally got a call back, after I had returned home, 200 miles. I informed her that I would take it & that I would bring $$$ & a trailer back to Lubbock to get it. She said that she would drive it across to my daughters house & that she had a box of spare parts & a new tow bar for it. WOW it runs & drives, needs a few repairs, but that is the fun part of a new project.

I have already gathered a lot of great info from you folks & will be needing more as I tear into this thing. THANKS!!!

It was just being in the right place at the right time. My luck doesn't usually run like this. I knew it was a great deal & I had to move on it quick, because it wouldn't be there long. I'm pretty much leaving it alone until after our July 4 parade & then the upgrades begin. You members will be hearing lots of HELP!!!HELP!!! when the work begins.

I go to Lubbock all the time. You can bet it wouldn't be there long, especially if I had seen it. Congratulations! Welcome to the club. Can you make the Buggy Round-up Labor Day weekend in Boerne? :)

Welcome. I have no need for another buggy but I would have bought that one for $1000 just on general principles :D . Hope you can make it to the Buggy Roundup http://www.texasmanxclub.com/Buggy_RoundUp_III.htm

Thanks for all the Welcomes folks. Looks like a great, helpful, bunch of members on the site.

I am going to try to make the buggy roundup in Boerne, with or without the buggy. It will be a good chance to meet some of you & check out your buggies for ideas on what to do with mine. The pictures do my car justice, as it does need some repairs to be legal & roadworthy.

1-The trans does not have 3rd gear & the mounts are all broken.
2-The floor pans & shock towers have some rust issues.
3-The electrical system needs some work to get an inspection.
4-It needs those darn poly seats replaced. They put the squeeze on my backside.

Other than those issues, it runs & drives pretty good. I may try to patch it up for inspection, so I can take it to roundup, & then pull the body for rewire & repairs afterwards.

Fred- Thanks for the engine info. I looked all over the web & couldn't find any engine numbers starting with a D

blackthree4me- A Haynes VW manual was included in the box of parts that came with the car. I'm a believer in having a manual on anything I own.

Thanks Again Folks,
Jim B
