little problem with the buggy

Postby GinaJ » 05 Sun Jul, 2009 8:50 pm

Okay guys here's another one for ya'll to figure out for me. Ya'll rock at this. Anyways, I've got this serious squeaking going on at the front of the buggy. Sounds like something turning so I'm thinking right front wheel. My husband swears its not coming from there because he hears it on his left side. He's always in the passenger seat :) I say it's coming from the right side. It will turn in to a high pitched sound at times. It slows down as I slow down. Any ideas??? I'm scared to drive it. :(

Sounds like a wheel bearing to me. I would check it before going out again. Change both sides if it is.

Does the noise go away when you apply the brakes? I would say like Danny that you should at least take the drums off to inspect all the components. Lack of brakes at a critical time has an unpleasant ending :(

No, it doesn't go away when I press the brake. You can just hear it slowing down. Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

I didnt think about that Bill. Gina, pull the clip off the left front wheel, pull the cable out and drive it, if its quite......then thats it.

OK, now that you're on the subject of speedometer cables, I have a question. Why does my VDO electric speedometer vary up and down by 5 mph at lower speeds? At 50 mph or above it is stable. There is a 90 degree bend in the cable, but it's about a 1 foot radius or more. I don't remember greasing the cable, so that may be the culprit. :)

Well, ya'll did it again. It was the speedo cable. Thank ya'll so much. That was a huge help. So does that mean I need a new cable? The one that was on it was new.

I would try white grease, its available in a spray can with a tube much like the WD40 straw. Shoot some down into it from the speedo end. I would try a little at a time, Dont want too much in there.
