Who has done Extensive modifications/repairs?

Postby Faron » 29 Sun Aug, 2010 12:34 pm

Do be honest I have posted this on The Samba & Az Baja as well.

Who has done Extensive Fiberglass modifications/repairs?

I understand that Building a Dune Buggy/Kitcar is a HUGE process and all of them have extensive modifications. I am not talking about mechanically I am talking about modifications to the fiberglass Body. I have started 2 different Dune Buggies and regret selling each before they were finished for one reason or another. On the first Fiberglass Body I did a few repairs and few modifications to the look that I was very proud of. Now that I am on the prowl for another attempt, I want to find a Buggy body that is for the most part a piece of junk. I want to repair and change the look to suit what I want. (Yes I am dumb enough to like working with Fiberglass.) I am not picky about the body shape, I just want it to stand out when I am finished.

With all that being said, if you have made some changes to your fiberglass body please post them up or give me the link to your build so that I can see what is possible. I figure what the heck this has the potential to become a great thread in my eyes.

Thanks in advance

Well not a buggy...and not really a modification......but I would say this was an "extensive" repair:

Faron, in truth, Cory raised his car from the dead. He performed a miracle. :D

Thanks Ken. It was an unassembled CMC Speedster kit that was sitting next to a guys garage when a drunk driver jump the curb and smashed it.

I got a front quarter from Intermeccanica and grafted it on.

It had a dark tan interior so I wanted a blue to compliment it. I just picked a color out of a Sherwin Williams catalog.

Check with Neil at Hawkeye buggies. He had several bodies from his mold that had problems. One was only one layer thick..very thin but could be modified and then a final layer added to the complete body. Johnny B.
