Need Advice

Postby bmoss » 02 Mon May, 2011 3:04 pm

I have been wanting a buggy for a long time but could never find one to fit my 6'6" frame. I found Neil Decker who has agreed to build a custom buggy for me that will be longer and wider but before I green light the project I would like to know the pro's and con's of owning a buggy since I am newbie and really do not know what to expect. I would also like to know what to include/exclude in the build. Any ideas anyone is willing to share will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Bill,

I don't know where you are, but I would recommend stopping in at the Buggy Blast in a few weeks. That way you can see a little bit of everything and talk to a whole bunch of folks. That would get you set down the slippery slope

Bill, Welcome to the club glad to have ya..

Like Cory said come on out to the blast look around, I'm sure someone would take ya for a ride or come find me Ill take ya for a spin.
That way you can get some different ideas try on some buggies for size and then you will have a better idea of what ya want.
Ive used a couple of Hawkeye chassis and they are way better suited then most for us taller/long legged guys.

Look forward to meeting ya

Welcome Bill,
Amen to coming to the Blast. It's the place to be if you are contemplating getting a buggy.

You also asked about pros and cons of owning a buggy. Here are just a few pros:
1. You will make some of the best friends anyone can hope to have
2. Wherever you park your buggy, you will have people admiring your car, and that will happen no matter how expensive the car that is parked next to you
3. If you are not already, you will have to become a "people person" because an awful lot of people will want to talk to you about your car
4. If you enjoy getting high fives, waves, and thumbs up, then you will be in hog heaven driving your buggy

I don't think there is another car you can own that will bring you as much pleasure as a Dune Buggy.

One thing is for sure, people will point and stare at you. With that said, getting in a buggy and cruisin will turn any bad mood into a good one and puts a good end to a bad day.
And the simply fact is.....BUGGIES ROCK!!!! :D
You need one.

People ask me, " That looks like a fun car, what is it? Where do you find these? " I like it when the cops give you a thumbs up sign. :D

I met a cop the other day. He lit them up and the siren. Gave me a thumbs up and went on his way

I agree with everone whom has posted....Like BillK said it does not matter how much is into it, or even the make of the body...build it have fun with it and meet some great people.......just for the record mine was built on the cheap and when it went south on a NON sanctioned cruise EVERYONE stopped and made sure I made it to where I needed to go...A great bunch of stand up guys AND girls and make me a better person just for knowing them..BTW from experience, buy a new body and go from there...
