Tire Question

I just bought a set of wheels for my Street Buggy and have questions. The wheels are 18'X9" for the back, and 16"X8" for the front. I am looking for street tires and NOT off-road, with that in mind here are my questions.
How wide of a street tire, with as tall of a profile can I get for the back? (18"X9")
How Narrow of a street tire, with as sort a profile can I get for the front? (16"X8")
I am sure this may sound like a silly question to some, but I want to sound at least a little informed when I talk to a tire salesman.

I thought you said you had family of some sort that owns a tire store? It all depends on how your car is set up height wise. You are also using a narrowed beam?

You're going to have to use those expensive low profile sports car type tires for sure, but it's only money.

From the pictures of when you first brought it home it looked like there was four or five inches between the top of the tire and the buggy body. Measure you're old wheels and tires for the height to use as a guage so you know what diameter you can go to. Go to TireRack dot com and start plugging 18" tires. It tells you the outside diamter of the tires.

My wife's Uncle does own a Tire Shop, and because I am family I get put on the back burner. So I would like to go in some what informed, so he does not feel like I am wasting his time. I have a adjustable front beam, and it is not narrowed.

Now that I have done a little research I think I am going to go with
225/45/16 = about 24" Tall for the Front
285/45/18 = about 28" Tall for the Back

Am I crazy?

The wheels should be here today, and I hope to buy the tires Saturday. I am sure that I will have to order them, will be surprised if anyone has what I want in this small city.
