Murz,

As you know there are many of us building here along the tx gulf coast, but due to this year's inclimate weather and the fact that I'm not certified for underwater welding it is causing a bit of delay on the chassis work and this is backing up the body work as I need to position the seats to set the dash, windshield and hood arrangement (I'm using dodge neon headlights molded in, glass action custom ghia dash, and a super beetle windshield) all of this on top of that 66 type 3 (heavily modified) chassis. The end result should be something along a modern Deserter GT interpretation. Some members have asked if it will be street or offroad? I think it will be dual purpose leaning toward the street but I'm not afraid to tear up the dirt with it. (anybody have a super beetle with a curved glass window I need to pull a mold for the glass, its faster than trying to build the window frame up from scratch).

My brother's long buggy build is progressing slowly due to getting the shop set up, the weather and his health but I hope to get down to the ranch this weekend or next and shoot some photos for the first body fit to see how much we are going to lift the body. I think the long body cars look funny if they are not lifted a few inches.

Anyway I will get some threads started on the build ups soon in the meantime you will have to look at my existing pics.

Thanks guys! This has been a frustrating and rewarding project and probably would never have happened till the wife and I went to Salado in 2006. Bill Knesek lit a flame that wouldn't go out when he and Linda showed up in their yellow beauty. We walked around, saw everybody's AWESOME car, then you guys all left for a cruise. The sound of Donna in The Pink Panther (and a couple of others) hittin the gas going down that little hill leaving the park was the icing on the cake. I wouldn't stop buggin the wife until we ordered a fresh Berrien body to be delivered to us in Ennis last October. Many thanks for those that have provided tech-support and suggestions along the way, and a special thanks to the little wife for backing up this dream. Can't wait to get her on the road!
We are at the wiring stage and am saving a few details for winter projects; something to hold off the cabin fever.Image[/img]

bug building

Postby staggerwing » 15 Sat Sep, 2007 1:26 pm

Yeah Capmike; I saw that red body sittin there at the Ennis event and thought, "oops, that's a really nice color", but sometimes you have to just stick to your guns. Daugther #1 wanted red real bad but I can blame most of that choice on BillK and that run-in we had in Salado. She is gonna "scoot like crazy"!

I'm headscratchin mucho on getting this engine to run right...:(

Hey Chris K.

I found a couple of milk crates in the garage so there is no need to wait for upholstery that work of art needs to hit the street now.
