Club Logo

Postby Bill K » 29 Sat Dec, 2007 10:12 pm

It's been kinda slow on the board through winter, so I thought I'd throw out an opinion topic.
I volunteered to handle the marketing for the Buggy Blast this year. That led me to looking at our logo.
Here's what I'd like know from others in the Club.
What do you think of the guy driving the buggy in our logo? Now, please, please I'm not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings, but it's just that to me the logo guy has always looked a bit weird to me. He just doesn't look like the right caricature for a dune buggy.
Let's hear what the rest of you think.

Just a thought; how about something less gender/race specific like an armadillo?

I second Manxter 10.

It would be really great if all who visit, lurk, and/or post to this board would weigh in on this subject...sponsors too!

logo

Postby Buggy1 » 31 Mon Dec, 2007 11:48 am

since no one will say it, I will.

The logo was designed to represent cowboys, buggies, and fun. The fellow in the seat was taken from a picture OF ME. And yes, I look weired.`
Every year this idea gets thrown up to the club. And every year it has been turned down.

I guess we could make a "political correct" logo.............now don't draw mohamed, dimecrat, republican, don't show a certain haircut which might offend different genders, don't use a cowboy hat because of "brokeback mountain", and don't make the buggy look like a rail, meyers manx, baha.

I suggest a "fog" image...........not political, not racial, not real, ethnic, or religous. No rails, no meyes logo, no road runner logo, and above all don't use Roto Rooter logos cause this is where this topic should go.........down the hole.

We have hats, shirts, and flags...............what are we gonna do with all those? Besides, this comes up every year and no one yet has exsplained what the hell is so offensive about our logo.

As a sponsor, I am wondering what marketing stragity is in play here, we are the club...........not the little town who we pay for our business. Never heard of any club changing logo to fit marketing. Now everyone can be mad at me.
I am sure this will get back to Osama Ben Ladin and he will put a "hit" out on me.

Here is an idea, lets put effort into makeing trips and cruises all over texas instead justy south in Houston area........we are loosing a lot of members who don't want to travel 500 hundreds miles for a 2 hour show adn then a cruise...........vendors do not get enough cover time going 500 hundred miles, just to fold up in one half a day. worse yet, the internet comes into play and sends everyone to "serannoes " where weall got the roto rooter, unless you want someone like him sponsoring the club. Sorry for the rant, Im one my way to the darn hospital again........so tired of being sick all the time.

Since I LOOK WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!  I for one think that the guy looks great!
No really, isn't it a bit much to want to change something that represents a club, and has for years?
How can we make something that we know isn't going to offend someone somewhere?
Like the one fellow said...........if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!
Should there be someone who gets offended about the guy in the buggy, they are either from someplace weird, or they have a chip on their shoulder and fixing the LOGO to suit them would only give them ammo to go after the next thing. We are from TEXAS and I for one am proud of that!
The ones who get offended about the little guy, should there be any, might want to consider forming their own club. Then they could have the LOGO the way that they want.
By the way.....I think that Neal needs to get more meds.......and take more of them!!!!!
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

Hey guys, We agree 100% with Neal, the logo should be left alone. It is the logo that started the club and it has been working all this time. We are proud to be Texans and our logo shows it. I guess for the next show I might need to leave my Pink Panther at home because he might not be politically correct. You know I don't know what is so wierd about our logo any way. What could be wierd about alot of grown men and women riding around and showing great looking over grown go-carts. I think it is pretty cool myself. We get to go to all of these great VW shows put on by great people and act like we are kids again, what could be weird about that?
Hope everyone has a great new year.

P.S. I hope I didn't hurt anyones feelings.

Hmmm
Here we go again :D

MY 2 cents since you all asked.

the Logo is fine and dorky at the same time.
all logos are dorky!
Jessie James had a dorky logo until it was cool.

I understand Bill is trying to do what he believes is best for the club and thats IT!
could we use a snazy logo? Yes is the answer
where are our options? I havent seen any YET
I know awile back I offered to draw something up and Have not
so I cant complain about anything.
Neil made the first, it has stuck, folks like it (that I know of)

its kinda like the name thing
I dont have a MANX and dont ever plan on getting one
that does not stop me from coming here
the name change and new logo would be benificial to the club. No doubt
but that means change and in most folks mind change is Bad.
if it aint broke dont fix it
ask K mart how that worked out for them.
this site is kinda quiet while other sites have a tremendus amount of trafic
AKA samba Dune Duggy Buggy forums
I see the club as a very friendly site that has about 10 of us that come here on the regular.
as long as that is what we want to do that is what we will get.
I just dont see us gaining many sponcers on a site that has 15 max
its up to us.

it realy doesent matter to me Im a Ghia Guy now LOL
Blackthree4me

PS
Buggy1 your on crack?
we havent had a TMC show within 250 miles of me EVER!!!!!!

Where do I get a Flag?
if it aint broke, break it then fix it

Leave it alone. I think it represents who you are, as a club based in Texas. And congratulations for having a friendly, helpfull web site unlike some others (sometimes). Tom

OK, I've gotten the message. I surrender, and wave the white flag.
But with that, I also need to say a few things:

Firstly: My intent wasn't to discuss scrapping the logo altogether. It's was just the driver what I wanted to discuss, and I have to admint, he still doesn't look like a Texan to me. The car looks great to me. In fact it is a copy of one of Dave Deal's art cars with some modifications:
http://www.treswright.vervehosting.com/ ... age-2.html

Secondly: There was nothing said about being politically correct. I don't believe in that.

Thirdly: My intention was a discussion, not to hurt someone's feelings, as I've obviously done.

Fourthly: I never intended, nor ever want to do or say anything that would be divisive of the Club

So having said all that, I sincerely apologize to any and all who I may have offended.

I hope you are still my friends.

I don't think that you need to offer an apology, and you are still my friend, I just meant that if people want to get all correct, or worry about how something might look to someone else, then they to understand that the club is about friends, fun, individuallity, and yes, BEING DIFFERENT!
I think that all of the politics or correctness should be left to the elections....and that can stir up a lot of sh%#%#$T!
I personally believe that we should all be able to be ourselves......itchy the torpedoes....full speed ahead!
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

logo

Postby BuggymanJohn » 01 Tue Jan, 2008 12:00 pm

The logo is fine with me since it was descided on years ago and we have a lot of expense in jackets and setup costs for them. Club participation seems to be by areas. Some areas being more active than others. This is a reflection of the members degree of interest, time to invest, money available for extras, family and work and lots of other factors. For several years we conducted cruises to Branson, Mo, Hot Springs,Ar., etc. We never had over ten cars. Many club members viewed the results on the club site thru the pics and wished they could have been there also. The point is: Enjoy the time, the fellowship, the uniqueness of your club. Let the light shine so that others want to be a part of the club and before we know there will be members hunting for functions to attend.

Just a couple of thoughts on this.

As Johnny said, there are financial as well as branding considerations concerning the club logo. Having one drawn up, then set up for shirts, caps, etc. isn't cheap...

Patrick and Johnny both touched in something that has been at the core of this group since it started. If someone has an idea for a run, or? put it out there. As many as can come will be there. But don't be dissappointed if only a couple show up. Time, time off work, money and family all figure in. There's been several things I'd like to do but couldn't get the time off work.

The thing is, this club and forum is a conduit for buggy enthusiasts to communicate, get the word out and get a fun run, work day or show going. Our sponsors help keep things afloat, we should go to them first for parts, chassis, bodies, tops, whatever. The Texas Manx Dune Buggy Club doesn't and won't belong to any one member. It all depends on everyone's participation.
Thanks

I think it's a subtle change that has merit, without destroying the essence of the logo. It's certainly not enough to render useless the hats and jackets with the current logo.
Perhaps the one on the website hasn't changed, but I did notice on my dash plaques that changes have occured in the past. Some have an antenna, some don't, and some don't have a Texas license plate, and the hat has, and has not had a feather. So, it's obviously been OK to change it a a little bit in the past.
A little cosmetic surgery, a cowboy hat, and racing slicks.
Is that still too much of a change for everyone's taste?
If so I can sure live with that.

Hey, a bald headed bohemian works great for me, but we have to keep it yellow if a hairless bohemian is driving it.

Go easy on me with this topic. Just call me a junkie, that had to come back for one last fix. I promise I'll go staight.
