tubing size?

Postby Rustybuggy » 08 Tue Jan, 2008 7:55 pm

Ok the wife is telling me the buggy budget is running low for this month  ... man that went fast, but she is real close to running... the buggy not the wife ( I hope )
I was thinking of getting the metal tubing to do the floor rails. I figure that part of the project will take me a little while to complete since i am going to have to beg steal and borrow the needed tools to do it :)
But the question is what size tubing should I use ? I was thinking of a 2 x 2 tubing but i don't know if that is correct. Then there is thickness 3/16 or 1/4 or whatever. Oh man just typing this has brought up more questions :?
I am starting to lose sleep over this project everytime I lay down to go to sleep I think of the Buggy and all the things I need to do on it

I bought all my steel for the frame (1"x2") and all the polished diamondplate for the floors from Discount Steel (internet) and it was delivered to my door for $260.00

which diamond plate did you buy , 3003? 6061? 5086? and how thick? how big of a sheet? they all seem very high priced :? The tubing is very cheap :) I like that.

3/16 (.1875")
3003
I can't remember the exact size I ordered but I guessed at 2 feet wide by 4'6" long and it came up to $86 a sheet.

6' of 14 gauge rectangular tube 1"x2" was $16
6' of 11 gauge rectangular tube 1"x2" was $20 ( ican't remember which I used but I am 90% sure it was 14 gauge.

so thas $85 + $85 + $16 + $16 = $202. Then shipping. They have a location in Fort WorthTX so its probably allot cheaper to ship to you then to me in Mass. Or you can pick up.
