In my case, my new beam had 2 'nubs' welded on 'em. I was gonna grind them off, thinking they were slag or something. Turns out it's a marker for positioning the gearbox, via the notched bracket... what beam are you using?
If worse comes to worse, you can re-drill to get the right angle (sometimes an oval) to adjust for the steering rod, and cover it up by using a color-matched set of IRS axle boot covers. They fit over the steering shaft nicely, and they bolt thru the firewall/bulkhead, making for a neat appearance. Hm, they'd also be a dust cover too!

you must have pride....in your ride....
