storm

Postby Texasbuggys » 10 Wed Sep, 2008 10:30 pm

Now, it looks like it is coming back a little North! Man that is one ugly storm! Sounds like Galveston is going to get a 20-25' tidal surge! Man bust out the surf boards boys! Oh and button down the hatches as this is going to be one heck of a ride, it is as big as Texas!

This is when I wished I had a car rack and could put the buggy up top. We stayed for it. Suppose to come right up the freeway so will see. Winds are high right now. In the meantime here's a slide show of what it's doing around us.

Bryan and Annie are at the Meyer B&B in Comfort. I asked him to layout a cruise route for next year's Roundup, so being the dedicated fellow he is, he wanted to start early.

Actually, they live in a big RV, and that's not the place to be tonight, so he did the smart thing and went inland.

My prayers are with all of you down there. We have the tornados up here in Missouri. You have the hurricanes. So where do we move to that we can have good buggying weather all year round.
Someone find out where this would be and let's all move there and start our own city. You won't be able to live there unless you have a buggy. Let's have Bill K be te mayor, cause he's pretty good at organizing things. GregR can be the police chief. He can moderate that too.
Ok, ok. I'll quit. It's 6.45 am on Saturday morning and it's obvious that I haven't had enough coffee.
Stay safe people. You've treated this Missouri boy like a brother and I care abou each and every one of you.
Manx 2 that's really buggin' me and I love it.

Reporting in from Rosenberg:

Well, we made it through a pretty agonizing night, but all is well in the light of day.

I have a yard filled with small debris, have about 20' of fence down, and that's about it. My power is up after being down for a short while. So, considering how big and bad this storm was, we have a lot to be grateful for, not the least of which are all our fantastic buggy friends that were praying and thinking of us.

A tree fell on my neighbor's car, and there are large limbs broken, but again, not nearly as bad as it could have been.

Now, how about the rest of you folks on the Gulf Coast? I'm sure hoping you all did as well as we did.

Oh, and lastly, I accept your nomination to serve as Mayor of Buggyville, and promise to serve with honesty and integrity.

Well we faired very well, no rain and just some high winds, no lost fence or tree limbs! Hope everyone else gets as lucky. Looking and talking to folks in the Houston area lots of folks without power and a lot of damage. Thanks for everyone thinking about us and we are doing the same for everyone in it path.

Has anybody heard anything from Patrick & Lori? They live in or near Clear Lake, I think. Clear Lake is just north of Kemah, which I guess is under water if I heard the report correctly.

To all who have had to weather this storm.....our thoughts and prayers are with you. I guess the best thing to say is that things can be replaced, but people can't.
I am glad to hear of those who did not have damage.....personally know of one family (not in the club) who has all of their family here, due to the fact that they lost 3 homes, (in the family) and can't even get into the places to get anything out.
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

Hello All,

We just got our power back today at 4:00pm. We rode it out at home in Pearland and faired pretty well. Luckily, the storm went a little further east than the last forcast we received before losing power. We were spared any damage to our home. Others in our neighborhood were not as fortunate with roof damage, water leaks, fences down, trees down etc. Thanks to all the members with their offers of help and well wishes.

I kept on wanting to leave to just get out of the way of this storm, but why leave as the place where we were going to get away would get hit as well. We stayed so it would be over quicker.

Most of my neighbors were telling us that they were staying as well. We live on a cul-de-sac. We were thinking that is cool. Come Friday morning we get up as we hear the storm is coming right for us and the driveways of the people who said they'd stay are now gone! No one told us they were leaving. They just left.

Now it was only 4 of us staying. We did okay till about 2:30 or so when the train came thru. Yep a Tornado!! By the time I ran from the front laundry room (only window that was not boarded up so I could see out) to the back room to tell Lori to jump into a closet it had already gone over us. Sparing us it ripped at our shingles ripping them up leaving only small holes in our roof, knocked down all of our fence, messed up my truck as now it is having issues, and our pwr went. We heard this ripping noise on our roof! It sounded like well the roof was coming off at times.

Our neighbors weren't so lucky. While the Tornado was around I heard a big smack on the side of our brick. Later we found out it was their gate that came off and hit our house.

In the meantime we heard another weird noise. That was the huge tree being sucked out of the ground. Stop signs are bent over. The Gas Station near us lost all it's pumps! Twisted and some thrown across the road.

If there is another storm that is higher in force I believe we are out of here.

We've been living on Oreo's, Peanut Butter Crackers, Coke's, Water, and had to grill our steaks as our fridge was in the last days of throwing stuff out. If it weren't for the guy that was selling the Generators at the Auto Parts store we'd be throwing out a lot of food. We are owners of a 3500 watt Generator now and we found out we weren't gouged on this price. We actually saved $$$. Not like one guy on TV that bought one for $1400 in Houston as he had to have one.

We kept up with information with a battery operated B/W TV. Which well won't be working in FEB.

It might be a while before the wife goes back to work. She works in Galveston. All of our Med Docs are also in Galveston.

Going to try to fix our roof before the next rain and try to finally get my truck fixed. Another auto parts place wanted to charge me $175.00 for a part for my truck. Cash Only! Uh no.. Last time I checked that part was under $80. Talk about price gouging there. One sevice station was doing the same thing. Had their gas at $4.56 when everyone else was at $3.49. Long lines every where.

In the mean time. Check out these nice photos I took of the storm and surrounding areas. Just a few photos I have taken while we've been outside. There is a curfew in effect (Dusk to Dawn)....

The big tree that was sucked out of the ground!!

Image

Looks like we are in a jungle. Where is all the wildlife!

Image

Not sure really what happened here, but YES that's an H2 Hummer under water with only it's roof showing! I do hope they are all okay.

Wow!
A little wind, a little water, there ok by themselves just don't mix them. We had just moved to our new home 2 weeks ago, fortunately everything stayed high and dry with no wind damage. Sugar Land missed the big one.

You know they have those plans to convert the vw engine to an air compressor but what I really need is a generator.

Work!

Postby Patrick » 17 Wed Sep, 2008 11:47 pm

Work. You have to work! We are on suspended operations till further notice. We have people who don't understand that when a traffic light is missing at an intersection it means to stop. They want to get the city working again before letting people back on the road again. Course we saw tons of people out today. Also alot of wrecks too.
