hood gap

Postby buggyryan » 09 Fri Jan, 2009 6:18 am

this might be a dumb question but i will ask anyways . how much gap should there be when the hood is set down on the body? i didnt know if it would just suck closed when i tightened the nutserts down or if there should not be hardly any gap to begin with. i know fiberglass should not be expected to hold alot of stress by itself, so if i need to reinforce it to pull it together then so be it, i would proly prefer that to just depending on the fiberglass not tearing under the stress

Ideally the hood should have about 1/8" clearance on each side. Just enough to put in some fender beading if you choose. Thats ideally. In reality alot of the older bodies tend to "spread", with the front fenders coming down, and therefore widening the gap between the hood and fenders. I would not try to cinch anything tight with nutserts on the glass.
