Today I installed a Comp-Pro ignition system. The points 009 distributor just wasn't cutting it. It made a tiger out of a kitten. I could not believe the difference it made. It is still pulling up to 3500 rpm in 4th. (That's as far as I would dare take it in the city.) The Comp-pro is the Canadian knock off of the MSD system. $400 cheaper too. They said it was good to
6000 rpm, then it goes a little flat. That's OK 'cause I don't drive that way. No more hesitation , backfire, and spitting. I definitly recommend this system. :D

I messed up on the name. It's Procomp. I said I installed it, but I meant I had it installed. Buggy Warehouse did it while I waited. $400 installed.
Saturday I took my son for a ride for the first time, and it ran great. When we got back, I drove it into the garage and turned the key to OFF. Guess what! It kept running. I couldn't shut it off. I finally hit my hidden kill switch and it shut off. I'm thinking my ignition switch went bad. That gives me a good excuse to install my new chrome plated steering column which will require a separate switch. I'll have three months to get my car back together for the Buggy Roundup. :)

I put the MSD on mine and there is a small one way diode that has to go on the alternater to keep the current from getting past when the car is turned off.You can buy the diode at radio shack.

Can you tell me the size of the diode? What do I ask for and exactly where does it go? Did yours keep running after the switch was turned off also? They said this is an exact copy of the MSD, so that could be the problem. Thanks for the info. Give me details, please! I'm not in the mood to change columns right now anyway.
Oh, just a thought! I ran it several times before with no problem. It shut off with the key. Hmmm! :o :)

Well, I found out from the Procomp manufacturer that the case of the coil must be grounded, and a diode must be installed in the wire going to the alternator. That would be the small wire that goes to the spade connection. The diode comes from Radio Shack and the stock number is 276-1103. The white band on the diode is toward the alternator. That still doesn't explain the fact that it worked for awhile before this problem. Any answers anyone?

No problem! I'm sorry you've been sick. Do you think it was the flu?
That 800 number works in cases like this. I just never think to call it. Now everything is back to normal. Thanks for you're input. Tomorrow I'll be installing a serpentine system. Wish me luck. :)
