PANIC AT INSPECTION TIME

Postby DannyT » 14 Tue Jul, 2009 6:57 pm

Went for a ride a few weeks ago and nonticed that my inspection was out. Not usually a problem as the owner of the station is a buggy owner too. Well, I jumped in the buggy Saturday morning and headed off to get the inspection. Only to find that the station was closed and totally empty. Last thing I wanted to deal with is someone that turns out to be the Nazi inspector. The original guy was the one that helped me get it legal here. Luckily I was able to find another shop that gave me no problems and was very happy to see the buggy and have a chance to drive it,even if only for a short "brakes check".

cool its good to know someone that does legit inspections and is not a nazi about them.
anyone that needs an inspection in the Houston area, please PM me and I will get you taken care of.
The buggy needs to be able to pass a Safety inspection, and you have to have liability insurance on it, and that is it.
If you have questions about what is needed to pass, PM me those questions, and I will do my best to help.

little tidbits,
only one mirror is needed.
reverse lights are not required.
most stuff is pretty much common sense though.

inspection

Are 4 way emergency flashers required? I wish I was close to you, when the time comes. I had a couple of friends out here in west Texas that were not too hard on doing inspections, but they have both quit doing them. The DPS was getting too tough on them.

Here is what I have on my rail:
Headlights(high beam and low beam a must)
High beam indicator lamp on dash(was required to have)
Brake lights
Turn Signal lamps(front and rear)
Emergency flasher
manual ememgency brake(no line lock allowed)
Horn(wasnt required but after a few close calls added)

I believe that was it. Of course proof of insurance and a valid drivers liscence and also proper registration(tags/sticker)

No. Here is a list of what is required:

You can get more detail on each item here:

thanks for the link. didn't know that a speedo wasn't needed. Mine isn't hooked up and I'm due. Probably good for that whole speeding ticket thing though. :D

When I drive something without speedo, I just carry my GPS or stick my little Garmin Navigator on the windshield.
