New Inspection Process

Postby Ken » 25 Wed Mar, 2015 1:57 pm

My vehicle inspection sticker expires March 31, but the registration is good through May, when do I need to get the vehicle inspected?
I think I need to have the car inspected ANYTIME before I go renew the registration, right?
Or do I still need to have it inspected in March?

As I understand it. You have up to 90 days prior to your registration renewal to get the inspection. Just to be safe though, I think I'd go ahead and get the inspection.

Ok I actually just guessed my registration date. Truck was at home. Let's say registration is more than 3 months from inspection.

Like
Inspection up end of March '15.
Registration up end of January '16.
What is the deadline for this inspection?

What's preventing me from just removing my March 2015 sticker and then wait until December or January to get inspection?

I thought I heard the news say 90 days wasn't starting until end of February'16?

I'm confused. I'm just going to drive mine "as is" till I get pulled over. Maybe they'll have handouts that will explain all this new legislation process, I mean registration process, or whatever the heck it is. What happened to the good ole days? Does that help??

OK, wasn't hard to find the TxDot website dedicated to the subject.

TwoStepsOneSticker.com

"You will not have to pay for more than one inspection in a year. During the sync up year from March 1, 2015-February 29, 2016, some vehicle owners will go beyond their 12-month inspection cycle to align the expiration dates for inspection and registration."

There is a calculator and when I put in my dates, it returned this:
"You must obtain a passing inspection prior to your vehicle registration."

The Legislature has created major confusion for Texas motorists.

Studies have repeatedly shown no higher accident rates in States with no vehicle inspections due deficiencies of the items currently being inspected in Texas. So, I say abolish the whole inspection thing. Not likely because it is a revenue source. But, if they need the money so badly, then just increase the registration fee by the amount of inspection fee and eliminate one more governmental nuisance in our lives.

You will never get the inspection eliminated in the busy counties as long as the environmental crazies are involved! Harris County is $40 for modern cars but only $14 for the buggy.

Had my 1997 Suburban inspected today...dropped from $40 to just $25 in Harris Co. The new law started on March 1st and I took my inspection receipt to Krogers and got my registration update. I noticed that my registration fee went up about $7. Process was painless!

You won't pay the state inspection fee until registration.
At inspection, you only pay the inspection station fee.

Roger that. Absolutely on the Pear wine. We finally got around to making some Mustang Grape but it won't be ready for a while. We may have to snitch some of Bobby's? Sandy came up with a new recipe but it's not ready either and it has a secret ingredient in it. That's all I can say about that.
