Windscreen Question

Postby CoryN » 01 Sun Feb, 2009 1:25 pm

I'm planning on going with a Hawkeye type show cage. If I have a bar directly behind and parallel with the windsheild, why not just attach a channel to the rollcage and install glass in it, and forgo the windsheild?

I believe Bryan's is this way.

What are the pro's and con's of doing it this way?

Im gonna try doing that on my manx, if I ever have time to work on it.

Pro's
Clean look, probably less expensive

Con's
Having done some tube bending it's almost imposable to get a perfect fit. (Look close at the next show doesn't matter who built the cage it gonna be off a little here or there) No big deal until your trying to match the front hoop to the dash. (Bryan did a real nice job on his but how much tubing did he waste to get that perfect fit?)
Next thing Im trying to figure out is how to attach a top since there will be no channel.
Also I really like the clamp on windshield wipers, that wont work ether.

Not trying to discourage you, as I said Im gonna try it on my Manx and even take it a step further ;-) you'll just have to wait and see to that part. :D

Well - I've got no problem making the dash fit the roll bar. Its a basket case anyway. I've got to think about that some to figure out a clean look and still be able to get the hood on and off with the roll cage intact.
