rear suspension

Postby Rick » 01 Wed Apr, 2009 9:16 am

I'm having a problem adjusting my rear suspension. I'm either one tooth too high or one tooth too low. I've  read and tried everthing I can think of. I've rotated the inner spline back and the outer forward and ever combination I can come up with. The end result is always the same. Too high or too low. I have even gone as far as to have my son come over and read step by step and do it. Again the same result. Too high or too low. What am I doing wrong??????????????????????????????

You might describe in detail what you are doing. Is this a full buggy with engine and body attached?

If you just jack it up, rotate the torsion bars and let it back down it will always be too high because the friction of the tires on the ground prevents it from assuming it's natural position. To really do it right you need to drive it a bit after after you adjust the torsions. It's a PITA but sometimes you have to do it several times.

I just did mine. I had too much tension in it to start and the wheels tipped in on the bottom. So I adjusted 2 splines and got them siting straight. Put the body back on and the tires rub.

Going to go back one tooth and see if that works, otherwise I am going to have to run a lift of some kind in the back to get the body up off the tires.

That's what I'm talking about. One place the wheels tuck in and when I back off one tooth then it squats down

splines

Postby Texasbuggys » 01 Wed Apr, 2009 12:26 pm

Hey guys the inner and outter splines are different so you can fine tune a little movement or a lot of movement by using the inner or outter spline adjustment. Ya may already bea aware of it but thought I would offer it as a possible solution.

I used a angle finder on the trailing arms. Got the car as level side to side as I could. In my case 23 deg. was too high 17.5 deg. was the sweet spot. Also you may have to drive it around the block to get it to settle in right.
It's EASY.... if you know how.

rear suspension

I read about the inner and outer being different but I must have a weird one as they both move the same amount. I've tried backing the inner off one tooth and it still drops to much. When I did it the first million times I thought it was me but now I'm not sure. The inner splines are smaller diameter than the outer. other than that I don't know much about it except that it is trying my patiance. :?: :?:

Ive never used them BUT you might try adjustable spring plates or trailing arms. It depends on who your talking to as to what to call them.
Maybe someone else can give you more details.
