I think most of the gang here will say if you think you can do it yourself, then you should do it. I rewired my rail front-to-back, headlights to engine, and if you take it step by step, component by component, its not such a complex task.

Now, if you hope to wire up a buggy, start to finish in a weekend, you best do some thinking and buying of material and thinking about routing. But if its kind of new to you, plan to take a couple weekends. Do some looking through this site and you will find some great wiring by these guy. This will give you ideas and you may have some questions for someone. Don't be shy, these guys know there stuff.

Got any pictures of your rail. Lets see what your working on? Good luck and keep us posted how ever you proceed.

If I had it to do over again for my buggy, I would spend the extra money for a Ididit or Flaming River column (which is a reworked GM column) and buy a Bare Bonz kit from Ron Francis. You can use that kit and wire your car and never know what you did but everything works. I've done it on other cars. This time I used the VW column and it has turned into an absolute nightmare. I'll turn the key soon and hope everything works. :)

Brock12 - I too was a bit intimidated when I went to wire my buggy. I did from scratch and just what Ken said, if you compartmentalize each section of wiring, it is easy. I did the no brainer (engine) first, then the headlights, then turning indicators, hazzards and then the wiper motor.

One thing that helped me EXTREMELY was going onto Google, clicking on the 'Images' link at the top of the page and doing a search for 'VW Bug wiring'. You will get a few hundred wiring diagrams. If you are using bug switches and relays, this is the way to go. I actually used the wiring diagram from a Karman Gia. The one that came with my wiring harness kit was worthless.

Good luck!
