engine fittings...???

Postby matter396 » 01 Wed Apr, 2009 3:10 pm

hey guys another question......My engine is full flowed with remote oil cooler. I want to run braided lines -8 AN I believe. Does this sound like the right size to run from engine to cooler. If so does anyone know what fitting I order to go in the case and come out to that size???? 90degree is what I am looking for but don't know what thread or size the engine inlet and outlet is.

Thanks,

Mike

Just go to NAPA and have them make up 1/2" hydraulic hoses for you. Plan on spending about $100. The top hole in your engine is the exit and the bottom is the return. The thread is 1/4" NPT. You can have them make the hoses with that thread. The cooler will have to be adapted with 1/2" NPT to an inverted flare. Use 1/2" ID hoses. One word of caution. Be sure you make up the fittings in the same direction you are going to install them or you will have to make new ones. They don't twist!
You don't really need AN fittings unless you want to have pretty blue fittings. Remember, they are 37 degree fittings. I use 45 degree brass fittings on mine. That's strictly a personal choice. I hope that helps you. I'm always reluctant to answer questions, because I don't want to be a "know it all". :)

oil fittings

Postby matter396 » 01 Wed Apr, 2009 9:49 pm

Jack,

They are way bigger than 1/4" I am thinking atleast 1/2" but assumed they were metric. I haven't found anybody that carries AN fittings near me that I can take them to and check. I like the line idea from NAPA and there is one just down the street. In the pic if you see the top brass fitting I need it to come out and make a 90' left turn to route to where it needs to be. the bottom one would come straight out. Are these really standard NPT thread. That would seem to make this to easy.

Thanks,Image

Well, I spoke too soon on this one. My oil lines come out the back of the engine about where the old doghouse cooler is supposed to be located. Your setup is totally different from mine, sorry! Someone who has seen this setup should speak now. C,mon guys, help me out!

Ok, I haven't posted in a very long time but this is near and dear to my heart. Just finished buiolding a motor and set it up for full flow also. Forget about the fittings you are using in your picture. Go down to any hydraulic shop and they will have all the fittings you require and the stainless stell braided nylon hose that will work great on it. The fittings are what will cost the most but it will look really good and be a whole lot cheaper than the anodized aluminum one s you might get from a speed shop. First off you do need -8 (1/2) fitting size and you will find that it will be easier to use a straight 3/8 NPT to -8 AN male fitting in the case return with a corresponding 90 degree pressed on fitting on the end of your hose. And, I would use straight fittings on the end of you hoses except for the one I metioned and use 90 fittings everywhere else. You will find that it will be much easier to make up your hoses when you get ready to connect them if you use straight fittings on the hoses. Also be sure you plug the oil pump otherwise you won't be routing oil through the filter, it will bypass instead. Here are a couple of pics with the the hose ends just threaded up a little and also of the pump with the oil galley plugged.

Well, couldn't get the picutre to work right. Send me your e-mail address and I will send them to you if you want
