Tire Pressure

Whats the consensus on tire pressure?

I had my valve stems replaced and the shop filled them all up to spec, and I haven't aired them down yet. I had it out a couple of nights ago on a courage run and put it in 4th gear for the first time. Its awful skittish, and I'm sure the hard tires are part of that.

What are you guys running front and back?

15-18lbs in the front and 18-20lbs in the rear.

If those tires are old... I'd definitely replace them.

As for pressures.. I'd experiment a little bit to see what your buggy likes.

Vintage ;-)

They are at least 30 year old Kelly Springfield Super Chargers, but have very few miles. They'll be the last thing I change if I can't resolve the issue with anything else.

Well they sat through the whole build process with no valve stems and still held the buggy up without any air at all, I don't think they will be an issue even if they do go flat.

Going flat would be one thing, a blow out at highway speed is quite another.

Yikes man... definitely replace them. Thats dangerous to be running tires that old. They can let go at any minutes.

I'd be willing to bet a tire change would do WONDERS to how it rides/drives

Just imagine the damage one of those tires could do to that fiberglass body at60 MPH as it comes apart. That could be heartbreaking as well as extremely dangerous.

Hey Cory I did a lot of tire shopping and found Cooper cobras to be the best deal on cool tires in cool sizes 295 50 15 rear and 215 60 15 front for Under $500.00 monted and everything. You can see em under my last post in Members rides Fred

The reason I am running the vintage tires that I am is because I like the square shoulder and the look. The new tires have round shoulders and don't look as wide.

I've actually had a lot of people try to buy my vintage ones off of me, both buggy guys and muscle car guys. When I decide to change I'm going to get centerlines and I'll probably go with wider Mickey's like from a T-bucket.

I'll have to put new ones on before the California trip regardless.
