Tow Bar

Postby Bill K » 14 Tue Mar, 2017 1:58 pm

I want to try a tow bar on my Buggy. But the grease zerts are exactly where the tow bar brackets would attach to the axle. So, will the Buggy tow alright if the tow bar attaches slightly off center on the axle?

Mine tows fine and doesn't hit the grease fittings when both sides are in place. If your tow bar is made for a VW it should work. If not, you can remove the
fittings when towing as needed.

Thanks.
Mine does fit well. As soon as I get a chance I'll test drive it.

Hey Bill,
Did you take the grease fittings out to make it fit? Do you have a narrowed front end because they make a tow bar for regular and 2" narrowed. As you probably know I tow mine everywhere and have never had any issues. The only downside is rock chips and tow miles register on the odometer. But nobody really cares about what miles it shows.

Yes, I had to take the fittings off.
I've talked to Billy about a bra and also possibly a cover that would cover the interior.

Hey Bill......I used to tow mine everywhere until I ultimately found a utility trailer on sale. My tow bar fits just inside the fittings where the bumper bolts on. My tow bar has been custom made, but I'm sure the manufactured ones probably bolt in a similar fashion. I will try and send you a pic.

Trying to attach a pic from a IPAD.....new for me since I smashed my five year old lap top in half due to frustration waiting for it to do something.

Hey Bill:

We tow ours on all the buggy trips. I have pulled it with my pickup and the motor home and almost never know it is there. I have a stock beam and the bars fit inside the grease fittings. Works great, but will scratch your beam up a little where the saddles on the bar rub.
