Install Clutch Cable

Who knows the trick for keeping the cable on the clutch pedal hook when reinstalling the pedal assembly?

I get it on the hook and even used zip ties on it, but when I put the pedal assembly in place the cable keeps coming off the hook.

I have drilled 2 small holes in the hook and ran a piece of safety wire across the gap to capture the cable end.
