wiring

Postby staggerwing » 11 Mon Feb, 2008 9:26 am

Hey thanks Greg:
Yeah, we mulled over that diagram when we ran into the problem with the autopark but were unable to make since of it. Everything sort of fell through the floor towards the end of the week so I hope we can get a fresh start this week. I'm pretty much at a complete loss when it comes to wiring and this project does not have a harness - it is all getting done from scratch. I have a good collection of diagrams and emails from this site and a couple of others that have been a tremendous help! We are very close to putting her on the road!

What kind of switch are you using? If it is a simple on/off you will need a relay and wire it like this:

to use a on/off switch with one speed use a simple 12v relay as follows:
relay 30 tab - main power supply
relay 85 tab - ground
relay 86 tab - power from switch
relay 87a tab - to 53A on wiper motor
relay 87 tab - to 53b on wiper motor

If you want two speeds you have to use a on/off/on switch and wire like Murzi says. Power into the center switch tab. Upper switch tab to 53 on wiper. Lower switch tab to 53b on wiper. Center switch tab to power supply AND 53a (thats your auto-park). Then ground the wiper at the 31B terminal.

On the Dolphin gauges. I have never used a Dolphin sender with a stock gauge. You need to see if they are compatible regarding the Ohm range. I installed a complete set on my Manx, but since its the Dolphin gauge with a Dolphin sender it works perfect. I don't have the insutructions with me but do they say the Ohm range for the Dolphin sender?

One quick check would be sure your tank is grounded.

wiper diagram

Hey thanks jsptown!

Using a stock column from a 73 Super Beetle for the wipers and I think we have it figured out, based on the wiring schematic! Should know something in the next couple of days - when I have time to work on it again.

and, yep, the tank wasn't grounded when the fuel gauge was connected, but if that doesn't work, ohming the two senders (stock V-dub and the Dolphin) should tell the story.

Thanks mucho for the input and I'll certainly report the findings when I have them.

The ground on the tank will make all the difference in the world. Just attach it to any of the screws holding the sending unit in.

Good luck!!
