Rear Disc Brakes

Postby yoboy » 26 Sat Apr, 2008 7:11 pm

Back brakes are dragging. Have taken the calibers off, pushed the piston back in with the brake line loose. Reassembled brakes, turned with little drag then pumped the brakes a few times now brakes are dragging hard. Brakes are still hard with the brake pedal disconnected. Any ideas?

In my other car hobby this is usually attributed to a collapsed rubber hose going to the caliper or a malfunctioning master cylinder...Since both rears appear to be dragging it sounds like a master cylinder problem...

White Post Restorations (www.whitepost.com) had to rebuild my master cylinder after I had 50 miles on a fresh restoration with the same symptons you've described...Excellent folks to deal with, have a stellar reputation and are considered a "staple" in the classic car hobby...They offer very fast turnarounds (usually less than a week) and are very price competitive...If nothing else you could discuss your issues with them and get another opinion...Ask to speak with Billy...

Hope this helps...Good Luck...

Let us know what you find out...

Later...

Check to see if the actuator rod has "freeplay" and the pedal is coming back all of the way it is supposed to.
Rubber lines could be rotten on the inside...I sell those if you need them.
Also have master cylinders!
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

I would also say its probably the length of the pedal arem from the pedal to the master cylinder ............. happened to me twice over the years.
