The Maroon Manx is in need of some new mufflers. I am currently running duals but am not opposed to a merged or a sidewinder type. What is everybody else running and what do you like.

It would be nice to not have to take them off to adjust the valves.

I really like my quiet pack. I had it ceramic coated and after 4 years is showing some "yuck" bleeding through from underneath. I still like it and would go ceramic again when (if) I replace it.

Two quietpack mufflers and ceramic coated
10 years old and looking good a little scothbrite
cleans them up real good plus you can talk to
your wife whthout YELLING.

I just got an inquiry from someone who visited the Roundup, and has started building a buggy. He was told that running the dual megaphone exhause like I am can reduce your power by 30%: Is that correct?

The dual megaphones are not made for power.. they are for looks and sound

Now I don't buy that your loosing 30% over an actual header and muffler system, but you aren't getting the benefits of true header. I would say at the most your only loosing a few hp. An actual header that has equal length tubes promote the scavenging effect within the exhaust and tune the flow of gases out of the engine. Your average person will really not notice much of a difference unless you have it on a dyno reading its true output back to back.

Now I've had some folks tell me they noticed a HUGE difference when changing to different exhaust systems, but I venture to say there was something not right with their set up before.. like appropriate tuning or jetting for their previous exhaust.. JMO

Ive done quite a bit of research on this and Im with Adam, on a stock engine you may gain 2 or3 hp with a 4 into 1 exhaust header.

Now when you get into big performance engines big cam dual carbs high compression turning lots of rpm it really starts to make a big difference, a properly designed header may well make close to a 30% difference in power.

When I say properly designed header Im not talking about the off the shelf $200 stuff, this would be a header custom designed to complement the other components of the engine.

From the way I understand it, headers or any exhaust system without an actual muffler will reduce performance. But it may not be noticed. As you start improving the performance of your car, exhaust will become more important and at some point mufflers over headers will make a noticeable difference.

I think, for most of us it would not be very noticeable?

Chrisopher,Bryan and Greg,
What manufacter of the Quiet Pack did you use? And where did you purchase it.

Edie and I drove around this weekend and with the baffles out of the dual pipes, It sounds cool but it gets old REAL fast.

Also, It looks like with Christophers set-up, you can adjust the valves without removing the J-tube. Is the the same with Bryans and Gregs?

I really like the setup I had on my old car for it being quiet. Now, if I had to do it over I would get the ceramic version.

As for power...who cares?? You guys...mostly are running 60-70 hp engines and a 5-10% reduction in power(2-7hp) is not enough to sacrifice cool :lol:

The dual cannons do a much better job showing off the engine.

The hayabusa exhaust was quiet though. here is a video.

Maybe someone could fab a system with the cannons replaced with street bike cans??

And Johnny is a great fab guy and has some really innovative ideas in his buggy build! And he sure made my old 4 bbl intake work out nice on his buggy! Way to go JB.

I am the guy BillK was talking about. My engine is a 1915cc and I can stand to reduce my hp a few horses. I love the looks of Bill's duals.
