Brakes draging

Postby blackthree4me » 10 Mon Dec, 2007 1:31 pm

took Gunter out for a ride yesterday
about 20 min into the ride the brakes got hard and seemed to be draging pretty hard
once we got Home, I lifted each end to try and pin point the locked up wheel.
the rears had a slight drag might just be adjusted too tight
the fronts were locked down pretty tight.
this morning before I left for work I gave the fronts a spin and all were free to roll?

I suspect the master is not returning and just keeps pumping them up.
just so we are clear the pedal is at the top and extreemly hard.

any Ideas to head for first.
thanks

found this info on another site.
If you have lots of free play, the piston is stuck and not returning. If you have good pedal pressure, or a very high, hard pedal, the check valve is stuck. Either way, it's time for a new master.

They also refer to bad flex lines, but I would guess Gunter has new ones, right?

It's the master cylinder.

Thanks guys
I will check it this week
its a disk front with drum rears
yes he has all new flex lines, I did reuse a couple hard lines though.
the master was new but sat for quite awhile before it got fluid
might have some Gunk in there
I think I will check the rod first as its the eaysest. LOL

Thanks I will let you know what was up.

It is the rod, the brake fluid is getting hot and expanding, and the bleed back hole of the master is not uncovered. There should be about one eigth inch freeplay at the top of the pedal. Also, the older masters can have a tight spot (from setting around), which doesn't allow them to come all of the way back.
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!
