Slope of gas tank

Postby Vee Dub Nut » 22 Sun Jun, 2008 12:10 pm

So I trial fitted my gas tank that I got from Texasbuggys (filler neck is just perfect by the way Bobby) and I noticed that the fuel spigot on the tank looks like its not anywhere close to the bottom of the tank...

Look at the way the fiberglass body slopes

In a sedan.. the perimeter of the tank is roughly parallel to the road.. now that its on a slope, this makes the fuel spigot sit further back relative to the lowest point of the tank..

Does anyone here have issues with this? Do you still have most of the usable tank except that area that lies below the spigot?

Maybe that explains why my gas tank is supposedly 11 gallons and it only holds about 8 1/2 gallons when I fill it up. I have run out of gas and rolled into a gas station. Thinking it would take the full 11 gallons when in fact it only took 8 and 1/2. Makes you wonder doesn't it??????

Pull the pickup tube cut it off short & re-install. That's the quickest solution. The best option is to relocate the whole tube to the lowest part of the tank providing enough clearance. I'm supprised there isn't anyone out there making after market tank with a larger capacity for buggies.

You are correct, the tank area on the buggys slope down in the front to clear the hood, that was what the original design or so I was told many years ago. You can run it as is and get a pretty good bit of range but if you are looking for maximum range then yes it could be re-located but I don't think it is needed and another potential place for a leak to develop once modified. I think you will find most can get more than a full days drive from a tank unless you are the Tuthills whose daily drive in their buggies maybe 500 miles!

I don't think I'll bother..

I already planned to cut down the pickup tube inside the tank some.. should give me more than enough fuel
