Pulling tranny

Postby bajadad » 15 Fri Aug, 2008 3:22 pm

Well, if I can get it stop raining for awhile this week-end I'm going to get the daughter to help me pull the tranny out of "her" baja. I think I'll take it to Qualitat and have it rebuilt. I was thinking that while it's out just as well get new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, new cv boots and motor and tranny mounts. I might even get new shocks while I've got it all apart. Can you guys think of anything else I might need to check or get while it's torn down.

This is great site with some really good info, Thanks

while you are waiting might as well check those stub axils bearings and Torsion Rubbers

now is a good time to put in a new rear main seal
if its leaking?
if it aint broke, break it then fix it

Have you gotten a quote for a rebuild? Usually you just exchange your tranny for a rebuilt one. A stock rebuild can be had for about $450 with exchange.

Thanks for the tips. We got the engine pulled last week-end, but now we're stuck. One of the two bolts for the front tranny mount is between three ribs and I can't get it out. I'm looking for a shallow thin walled socket to get in there. We'll get it out one way or another and get back to business. It's really cool working with my daughter on this project. She's learning alot about the car and I'm learning alot about her. She's really proud that she is doing the work herself and keeps coming up new things she wants to do to it.
