Hand Made Hardtop

Postby ElijahTurtle » 30 Mon Nov, 2009 3:48 pm

Has anone here ever built a buggy hardtop by hand? How would you go about starting one? Would hand laid or chopper gun be best? Just a wild thought for the future since I'm pretty sure finding one for my buggy model is next to impossible. There's a guy on the samba that has a factory one, but he is all the way across the US & not willing to part with it.

Yeah kind of like that, I want one that wraps all the way around the back though with a window in it.
There's no way to get a factory top for mine since the Litha Springs company didn't make them for very long. The guy on samba won't part with his since it's been in his family for years. I like the top he has on it, but I want it to come more forward on the sides too. I just have no idea if it's even possible to make one by hand.
Here's a twin to my buggy with the factory top.

Yeah, it doesn't even have to be in good shape, I'm sure it would have to be modified to fit the lines on my buggy.
