Alternator repair

Postby blackthree4me » 08 Sun Aug, 2010 3:55 pm

has any one replaced a regulator on there alternator
mine started to go berserk awhile back producing 15 + amps
last night went for a night ride and it wouldn't get over 10 amps and by the time I got home was at 0 and the lights fading fast but seemed to run OK.
followed a couple steps today but didn't find any smoking guns.
sure sounds like the alternator regulator to me .
can you buy just a regulator?

I have been told no you cannot and a alt. shop said he could the regulator was $125.00 so I ordered a new alt. for $65.00 and still have the old alt.
