Tone Down Headers

Postby Bill K » 26 Sun Jun, 2016 10:43 pm

I recently purchased a new set of headers that look just like the ones I have but have removable baffles. I was told wrapping the baffles with steel wool would tone down the sound.

So, is that true, and if so, do you wrap the whole baffle with steel wool? I'd also appreciate any tips on doing this sort of thing.

Bill, not sure how long steel wool would last inside a muffler/header. I've heard of hot rodders getting a glass pack muffler, cutting it and using the packing for baffles. Also might consider something like a stainless steel scrub pad.

Is there such a thing as stainless steel wool?
