rough running engine

Postby blackthree4me » 06 Wed Sep, 2006 8:59 pm

the other day we wen to a local car show man the heat seeker ran teribal
I have had this similar problem thru out the year but thought is was just cold natured it usualy clears up after the first ten minuts or so
this time it did not go away
we limped over to the show then home kinda early
long story short I found a loose #2 exhaust manifold bolt
tightened it up and now she purs like a cat
I had no Idea that it would make such a drastic change from just a little fresh air (lean condition)
before you ride this cool season do a quick theck on those bolts

while doing some trouble shooting (looking for burnt valves)
I did a compression check got a 90 PSI to 100 on all 4 cyiliders
manual says anything below 100 is bad all mine were below 100
what is the norm on PSI

shiney side up

The normal compression for a "normal" engine is about 120. Take the oil cap off and see if there is a lot of smoke or air coming out of the oil fill when the engine is running. If there is, then the piston rings are probably weak.
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!
