Cylinder-to-case sealant

Postby Classic Manx 71 » 02 Tue Jan, 2007 12:41 pm

What do my fellow members recommend for cylinder-to-case sealant on the VW engine? I have heard that RTV silicone is good but will ruin bearings if any gets in the oil distribution system. Is there something better? Thanks.

If the cylinders are stock, use the paper gasket and aviation permatex, if not, orange silicone....but only at the base of the cylinders.....not the case.
This is done by putting a small bead of the stuff around the lip at the base of the cylinder and pushing the cylinder down to the case.
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!
