We received an e-mail this week about the 2013 Children's Medical Center Parade requesting if the dune buggies had any interest in this year's parade on December 7. We have to fill out an application and submit info on participating cars and then the commitee sets up a time to interview and speak to me about the participants. Here's the webpage for the event.

Please give me some feedback as to interest. I know this seems early but these folks put alot of planning into this event so they have to start early.

Billy & Gloria, This was a lot of fun when we did it a couple of years ago. Looking forward to giving it a shot again this year.
We'd love to see more of the guys come up for this.

Here is the list I have so far as to who wants to participate in the parade from the website:

Greg & Susan
Boltman (Keith)
Bob & Pam
Dave & Christy
Charlie Martin & Flo
Cory & Lisa
Bryan & Anne
Billy & Gloria
Russell & Christie
John & Lisa

If I missed anyone please let me know as soon as possible. I will be contacting the parade representative very soon. They put a lot of planning into the parade and need our commitment early.

In years past we have had lunch after the parade as a group and had time for visiting. Guys please post up and give us your ideas as to what you would like to do following the parade.

Also one side note, Keith will be bringing his grandson to ride with him in the parade. He had a heart transplant at Children's Medical Center 10 years ago.

We very much appreciate our Buggy friends taking the time to come to Dallas and help support such a wonderful cause. Hopefully we will have good weather again this year....

We submitted our online application for the parade today based on the list in my previous post. If anyone else wants to participate please let me know as soon as possible and we can send them a revision. Hopefully I did not miss anyone.

Please note in order to participate the Children's Parade Committee must approve the group and each dune buggy has to have proof of insurance and sign a release. We can take care of the release at the parade. They will send me those forms once we are accepated.

Once we hear from the parade representative and have any details as to how they would like to use our group this year we will be back in touch with everyone. Last year they had 4 characters that needed a ride and then the two remaining buggies followed them.

Wasn't it fun getting biscuit in that purple buggy? As biscuit said, it ain't all costume....

Charley Martin, what was that comment about Wonder Woman?????

have gotten any answers to your lodging question?
If not, where are you coming from?
Personally I wouldn't stay in downtown Dallas. When I was with the parade group a couple of years ago,
we trailered to a parade designated parking lot near Reunion tower, and drove a short distance to the point
where we to line up for the parade.

John,

We would suggest hotels in Rockwall. This is a nice area along I-30 and will be the route we will take to go to the parade. We can meet you and you guys can follow us to downtown Dallas on Saturday morning. There is a nice Hampton inn there and also a la Quinta (not sure about Lq's parking lot for trailers).

Will you be staying on Saturday night also?

Everyone please remember to decorate your buggies and wear some type of Christmas shirt, etc.

If you need some ideas on decorations please contact me or some of the other members that have done this before (Bryan, Russell, Cory, Greg, Charlie Martin) or you can check out some of the pictures on the forum from previous years.

Our group has been selected to give Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! a ride. Don't feel bad we had to google the character's name to see who this was.... :lol:

We can have a Friday night dinner in Rockwall if everyone would like. There is a wide variety of restaurants around the lake area near where John and Lisa are staying.

I finaly dug mine out of the garage yesterday and blew all the cobs out of it. Was actually running pretty good considering it hasn't moved since Fredricksburg.

Got her all polished up today. Have you been watching the forecast? Freezing rain/sleet on Friday and wintry precipt on Sunday. The one I'm looking at doesn't show Saturday.

I have no idea, I was just thinking it was a car themed place, they might appreciate a bunch of buggies showing up. I don't even know where its at. I'll try to do some research. EDIT - I've reached out to them on parking accomodations. I'll keep you posted when I hear back from them.

Is the parade on rain or shine? Or will they call it if we are having inclement conditions?

Talked to Cheryl at Gas Monkey, they are having a car show from 11-1 so the lot is taken, but they have a big gravel area adjacent so they can accomodate our trailers.

Charley and Flo , and Gloria and I are still going to make it. I think Keith is also still planning on it. Not sure about Bob or Dave. You guys let us know when you get a chance

Pam and I still plan on being there. We took the buggy for a drive Saturday to be sure everything was ready. I just have to add some decorations and we will be ready.

We plan on going as long as roads are in a safe condition. We have spoken with the parade representative and they understand if folks can't make it due to the weather. If anyone else can't make it just let us know. Right now weather does not look very good starting on Friday am

....do buggies like ice, sleet, snow and 20 degrees?.....we are not sure but sand rails are fun in that stuff!

Hi Billy,

I am going to wait until Friday to make a final decision before driving up to Dallas. Just want to make sure there are no major road issues coming up I35. If there are no major issues, I will be heading up - it just may be later in the day.

I suspect the roads may be an issue on Friday. As long as they can clear I30 from Arlington to Dallas by Saturday morning, we should be able to make it. If it is not clear, I suspect they will cancel the parade anyway. We will just have to wait and see. I did receive my pass and instructions in the mail. Thanks for coordinating this. Since Pam and I like to run around in an old buggy, I suspect the concept of sanity will not be involved in this cruise....... We have loads of blankets and hand warmers to get us through. Hope you all can still make it. We are looking forward to Saturday. I hope we are still looking at going to Gas Monkey for lunch. I have been wanting to try out that place. Everyone be safe if you venture out.

Now I am disapointed. The news is reporting that the Children's Medical Center Parade will not be rescheduled this year. It is cancelled for this year. The idea of riding in the parade as cold as it will be Saturday was giving me some pause. But I still wanted to ride in the parade. I just may have to decorate the buggy and drive around town when the weather gets better.

I would like to echo what Bob says. Man I was really looking forward to this. It was to be my first opportunity to meet you guys and to participate in an event with my ride. The wife bought new decorations for the buggy so I am going to put them on anyway and go look at Christmas lights!!

Yes we are bummed about the parade being cancelled and not going to be rescheduled. Everyone be safe this weekend if you have to travel in the Dallas area. It has been sleeting and freezing rain falling here in nevada since yesterday afternoon and is still going strong. The weather folks are saying we still have several more hours of this. Our power has also been out most of the night but is back on for now.

Keith we were looking forward to meeting you and your family. Hopefully you guys can make some of our 2014 gatherings.
