BUGGY BLAST 2014

Postby Bill K » 13 Mon Jan, 2014 11:52 am

Brian B's post about the Classic triggered the thought: Will we be having a Buggy Blast this year?

How about having it down in Corpus or south Padre? Victoria members should know some good places to stage such a show?
Or Wimberly
Or staging it around the Monumental Bug Bash by the San Jacinto Monument? Do our cruise on the Saturday and join as a club on Sunday at the BIG show!

Buggy Blast, I think, should be seperate from other get togethers. Now with the Classic out of the picture for most, the more we can get together as a group, the better.

The coast, Corpus or South Padre, is a great alternative. Although I hope folks will come all the way from the Dallas area.

In the past the Blast has been centrally located for a greater turnout. I submit, if possible, that the Blast be at a different place every year. One reason is to get a taste of different towns and culture. Cruises can be of different parts of this wonderful state of Texas. Many folks are members in this club and live in many different areas of Texas with some good ideas of their little corner of Texas.

I will try to be at most of the gatherings because I love cruising in my buggy and getting together with y'all is pretty cool as well

Before my bout with pneumonia, I had been looking at the area around Palestine win East Texas and it look promising.
However, that said, I will again be bowing out of the Blast. The doctors say that I need to protect my lungs from things you don't ordinarily think about,
like smoke, pollens and who knows what else. The possibility apparently exists that I could develop pneumonia again if I get mixed in with the wring stuff…..bummer.

Anyway. I agree with Scott that the Blast should be separate. We had moved to make it more relaxed like the RoundUp. Th coast does sound good, but so do the back roads.
I will need to leave it to whoever wants to head it up, but offer my input (since I've done 10 of these things  ) to help with the pitfalls that always seem to show up.
If it's healed over Memorial Day again, that will come a whole lot faster that you think.

Hope to buggy with you guys again sooner than later.

I agree about perhaps different venues so long as it doesn't cause too great a distance challenge for folks. Now that having been said, I personally don't care for the Texas coast. Please understand my coastal opinion is just a one-member thought.

The somewhat central area of Texas, Shiner, La Grange, Schulenburg, Fayettville aren't bad.

Dave and I will coordinate the 2014 Buggy Blast. We had a preliminary planning session and have selected Marble Falls on Memorial Day weekend (May 24 & 25). With last year's weather and the short time we had to finalize the event, we believe Marble Falls still has plenty to offer. Give us a couple of weeks to work out the basics. Stay tuned - more to come.
