It’s that time of the year when everyone is in the holiday spirit and Christmas parades bring out the child in all of us! This year the Texas Manx Club was invited to participate in the Children’s Holiday Parade in Dallas. Eleven of us decided to drive our six buggies in the parade. Billy & Gloria graciously opened their home to anyone who wanted to come & stay. If you didn’t have your own camper to stay in, then they provided you with one!
I pulled into the Yoboy RV Resort Friday afternoon about 4:30.
I was hoping to catch a mess of fish from the Resort’s pond & have a fish fry for supper, but that just wasn’t gonna happen, so we had to go to the Fish Camp instead. It was probably better than what I coulda cooked up anyways ‘cuz of the variety of seafood they had.
After hours of feasting, partying, & decorating buggys while the poor men were working hard at other things, we finally called it a night. We had to get up early so we could leave by 6:00 to make it to Dallas & find our parking & staging areas. I had to wait til we got to the parking lot to decorate my buggy ‘cuz it was hauled on an open trailer.
The others
Bryan & Annie aka Mr. & Mrs. Snowman, or wait, I think he is Mr Scrooge

There was much confusion after we arrived & met with parade officials. Without telling our group, they had put us down as 2 separate entries & separated us, so Chris, Justin, & Llama Llama Red Pajama were number 11 & we were number 36. Justin was really excited about riding with the llama!
The parade officials provided a banner for Chris’s cute little buggy, so the Texas Manx Club banner was moved to Greg & Susan’s buggy because they were to be our great leaders!
We finally made it to our staging area.
They had to bring in the police to control our wild bunch! Yes, I was drinking tea & chewing gum, a big no no once we were in our staging area!
We moved up a little closer to the parade starting point & were entertained by several bands & drill teams. They were good & fun to watch.
Other entries
A lady came over & grabbed my camera to take my picture.
After the parade, we went back to the Yoboy RV Resort & had a great BBQ lunch.
I had to leave a little before 3:00 so I could get to another parade in Winona by 5:00. The skies all around were dark, but I never got into any rain on my way home. I got home, put the buggy in the garage, jumped into the truck & flew to Winona behind the slowest moving cars ever.
Finally, I was able to pull into a parking space, lucky to find one!
I arrived 5 minutes before the parade was to begin, so I fought the gathering crowd & walked towards the staging area to see if I could get a little smoochy smooch from someone, but I was a little too late.
I started to duck behind the trees, but then I realized this police car was the beginning of the parade. Whew, that was a close one!
Here’s some of the parade entries:
Here’s what I came to see:
Finally, this carriage brought the main fat man!
Something hit me & I realized it was raining candy! Everyone threw handfuls of candy at me! I gathered most of it up & threw it to kids as I walked back to my truck. I still had on my Santa hat so they just thought I was part of the parade!
A little different from the Dallas parade, but just as good!
It was a wonderful weekend!
