Indicator Lights

Postby CoryN » 20 Fri Feb, 2009 10:06 am

What indicator lights are y'all running?

Oil
Generator
High Beams

are the 3 I'm guessing are needed?

I use an Autometer gauge for oil and just a small led for brights and turn signals.

I've got a gauge for both oil and power - do I not want to run the lights then? I was thinking it somehow required them?

To pass inspection I believe it has to have a high beam indicator.

I seem to always run 4. A left & right blinker, a high beam, and the required alternator light.

I didn't even think about blinkers.

So the alternater light is the one that is required, I thought there was one that I had to have for functionality.

Alternator light is need to 'excite" the alternator. No LEDs for that one. It can be hidden if you like. You just need it.

Some dashes that might help you....

A yellow buggy that I did kinda old school. Blinkers, high beam & alternator light built into the stock VW speedo. No tach. Just wipers & headlights & speedo.

A Bradley GT kit car I did. I eventually used stainless steel trim screw washers around the LEDs to make them look more finished. I also had to run a regular bulb under the dash in series with the LED to make it work right:

A Porsche Speedster dash that used 914 gauges...they work perfectly. All indicators are in the gauges:

I went with the Shark gauges - I'll be hacking up the dash tomorrow for those. I don't think I'll put anything else on the dash except those 5 gauges - find somewhere else to hide the rest of the goodies.

I like those seats in the speedster. I also like the ones that ThunderRanch puts in their Spyders - but I don't see them for sale anywhere.

Try www.speedsterowners.com.

You may have to register...but it seems like seats like those are always popping up.

Just took a quick look...there are several available....

One thing I do with all air cooled, with the generator/oil lights, is the introduction of an in-line buzzer. Just fits in either the power or ground part of the circuit, whichever you choose..(same wires as the indicator lights...) if it lights up, you get a nice buzz, helps when you can't see the light on sunny days 8-)
you must have pride....in your ride....

I like the buzzer idea. Where do I find one and what do I ask for? :?:
