Seat mount kit for Manx ???

Postby Jerry » 19 Wed Aug, 2009 4:37 pm

My Manx has no secure seat yet! I just have an open floor pan, How do I make one or buy one? Suggestions please! I seen some universal seat sliders, but it looks like I need more than that. Any bolt on adapters ???

We need pictures! Do you have the stock seat rail still connected to the floor pan? Mine were just spot welded to the pan. I used the rails, but on the Pro90 seat that I bought, the mounting is simple. Just drill two holes for the front, then attach L brackets to the rear slider. Drill a hole for each side through the pan. Bolt the seat on and you're done. Go to
www.procarbyscat.com and look at the Pro90 seat. The new seat does not need additional sliders, they're build in. :)

Good! If you buy new seats from Scat do just as I said and you'll have no trouble. I don't know your budget, but they are nice seats.

Scat seats are low profile. I have them in my Manx style buggy. Anyway, on you seats there may be some tabs for front mounts. They should fit snug against the front of your existing seat mounting rail. You may have to fabricate some 90degree mounts from some angle iron to fit the rear.
I'll try to find those pictures of your seats. That should help. :) :)

Yes please pics! I have the seats, they are small bucket racing seats, they are plain. And the floor panels U can see by the pics. It's a new project! There not bolted on, or have any bracket...

I checked out the site u mentioned, they have pics of all the diffrent seats, but no pics of the seat mounts! I also found out that the brackets from 56-70 are the ones that are gonna fit directly bolt-on..! found that on www.chircoestore.com very cool they also have a video clip showing u how to mount it..!

Still have not made a purchase, im waiting on more IDEAS..!

The stock VW seat mounts will make your seat sit too tall. I've been that route. I even chopped 2" out of the VW mount and it was still too tall. That's why I gave up and bought the Scat seats. The slider is built into the seat bottom with very simple mounts. You can see how tall the stock seats are if you'll go to the "Member's Projects" and look for Jack Duncan's white Bandit. I junked those seats after I had them reupholstered.
If it's just sliders you need, Scat will sell you a set for $45 pr. Call them at (310)370-5501. :)

If you do go with sliders you really only need one set. There is no need to adjust the passenger seat.

On my Manx I used seats for a Factory Five Cobra replica. The drivers seat had a standard adjuster while the passenger side used two pieces of 2 inch by 1/8" thick aluminum angle stock. I bolted two pieces to the seat and then placed them at the right angle (slightly tilted back) and drilled holes to bolt the two together. Then drilled holes directly into my floor.

I did have diamondplate floors, but you can use a cut off wheel and remove those stock tracks.

Really? and thats your orange buggy? Man that thing is sweet..! Mine was started by some guy & then I took over, had it garaged for over 6years now. Drove it twice. Needs little tweaks here and there. Im now looking for some space were I can do the full brake kit since the storage dont allow me to do mechanic work..!

Here's a method from the Manx Club to lower seats using stock VW rails/frames that attach to your seat http://www.meyersmanx.com/garage/garage_seats.htm

On my Fiero seats I used 2" square tubing mounted to the chassis/pan and the bolted the stock Fiero seat track to the 2"square tube.

That WAS my orange Manx. I sold it shortly after completing to a guy in Canada. I miss it terribly.

I do have a Deserter GT and an Aztec 7 kit car on either side of my shop, as well as a Fiberfab Avenger kit currently in my shop......tucked into the corner while I paint my brother-in-law's 69 Camaro. Thank God that will be done on Saturday so I can get back to working on fiberglass!

Yup...mine came from Neil. It was pre-bent, but needed some minor fab work. He was able to ship it reasonably to me.

Contact him for a price.
