Well, this topic seems to gather interest on other forums, so what'll happen here?

Me? well my buggy is sitting in the garage gathering dust. I need to rebuild the carbs, look for a suspected vacuum leak and replace the shift rod bushing. Maybe someday...... :cry:

How about the rest of the gang...? Doing anything fun with your buggy?

Mine is getting new two way top that has an inside and outside color.

Plan on taking the wife arround this spring in it if I quit hurting myself

My buggy is down for a new body, paint, air suspension, seats, top and what ever I can dream up before the show in Fredricksburg. Got to get to work.......

I love my buggy

I was sitting at the light next to a 60K hummer
everyone was ohhing and ahhing at my car
pissed the guy off
I left him blasted with the stinger and belching unburnt fuel

Glassing the bottoms of the sides of the body (Nostalgia) to correct the "bow" that's present on both sides. Made for a poor fit when I laid the body on the pan to get ready for mounting. There was a space between the body and the rails (about 3/8") that began 6 - 8 inches away from each corner (eeeooowww!) Had to fix that before fitting the body.

Easier for me to mention today then yesterday. Didn't do much yesterday I don't think.

Today, I started laying out the wiring for the buggy. I am using the widely posted electrical diagram that everyone sends with a wiring kit. Or the cheap kits at least.

All front wires are labeled and connectors attached for the most part. Flasher unit seems to be the only problem so far. I may pick up a 2 prong flasher and see if I can get it to work as the 3 prong didn't.

Will not be doing anything else till next week. Hopefully things will work correctly the next time I try my hand with all those wires.

Not so much going on with my buggy, but I am trying to figure how to build a cover for the buggy while towing it on the trailer.

The covered wagon, now that baby is 100% Texas produced and I loved it! Needs to have a few ropes off the side, a keg of wine and a saddle rifle and gitty up! I love it Steve!

Drove it today

I don't know why but it got allot more attention today then normal. I had a guy follow me home said he just wanted to get a closer look.
The neighbor that I thought hated me even came over to check it out, he was a little disappointed cause he wanted to see both of them, oh well.

Oh yea my son figured out one of them is missing today

I didn't have the heart to tell him its not coming back home.

Well I finally was able to do some more electrical work yesterday and today. Seems like my buggy work time has been less and less lately.

All wiring in just about in place. The front wiring has connectors in place. The rear connectors need to be added and wires shortened as needed.

As the current rate I am working, I do not see the buggy being ready for the Buggy Blast. So it looks like I will be just a visitor and not a participant.

But looking forward to seeing all the buggies up close and personal that I have seen posted on this site.

I've ordered eight spoke chrome wheels in the US after I saw these wheels on Bill K's Manx. Thanks Bill! Ordered in December 2006, delivered on march 27th in the Netherlands 8-)

Finished up the glass work on the body to make it fit the pan - fits like a glove now! Got a couple of coats of truck bed liner from Walmart on the top of the pan to match the bottom. Ran all new brake lines and hoses last night, still gotta run the new e-brakes cables, maybe tomorrow. Still waiting on a long overdue engine build.

Looking good, thanks for the update.

I here ya on the shrinking wallet thing, but I haven't had this much fun (frustration) in a long time and am enjoying every minute of building a buggy. Wish I'd have done this a LONG time ago... Will post some pics next week as the build progresses. See you in Fredericksburg?

thanks staggerwing, ive always wanted to build my on car,thats why i got into the automotive business in the first place. but with wife and kids only
now am i able to. Its been a real pleasure so far and im looking foward to finishing it.I cant make fredricksburg but i will be at salado in may.

Have a bro-in-law checking a few of his plane buddies to see if anybody has one laying around, man I hope so, cause that's a really nice way to lay down the fuel filler on the hood and I'd like to have something pretty close to flush if possible. A buddy at work suggested heading off to the local motorcycle salvage yard to see if any late models are available with the same type of flush-mount fuel filler.

Took the buggy for a spin....wow, what a difference with clean plugs and no water in the gas! Found out I could even get a little 2nd gear rubber off those 275x60's I have on the back!
Also borrowed an IR thermometer from work and checked head temps when I got back from my run, 90 degrees ambient, about 20 miles run in traffic and highest temp was 250, low end was 210.
I like my buggy :lol:

Finally got a chance to work on the buggy! Steering is next for me and yesterday I was able to cut and weld on a donor column from a Super Beetle. Sorry David, I won't be going the drive shaft route cause the u-joints are just too bulky for the Nostalgia body. Next thing is to measure then cut/weld one more time and that should do it. Gas tank and wind shield are next then she gets hot-wired for a test drive on the country roads!

I picked up a new steering box from Doug at Qualitat this past weekend.
I primed and painted it Wednesday night. Last night I installed it. It was a pretty easy job.
My objective was to avoid taking off the tie-rods.
So I had to remove the Pitman Arm from the old steering box and just let it dangle from the tie rods. Than I disconnected the steering coupler. It was a little bit of a challenge trying to shimmy the box out from underneath the buggy. I guess the correct way to do it would be to remove the tie rods. But with a little patience I got the job done.
Tonight I get to take it for a test drive.
