having hell with two barrel empi carb

Postby Brock12 » 13 Mon Apr, 2009 8:55 pm

I am having hell with a 2 barrel empi carb, started as stock jets, 137 and 145, running 2 rich. blowing out blue and black smoke and cuts out when i hit the back barrel. so i switched the jets all the way down to 115 and 120, still does the same thing, perhaps worse. i have an electric fuel pump it is the empi fuel pump for a standard carb. only puts out 1.5 to 4 psi
8degree at idle 32degree full advance at 3500rpm an i played with the timing
ngk plug cap at 28
compurie electronic ignition
it a 1835 motor

I'm not sure but from the pictures Ive seen the EMPI and Weber carbs look the same. If so your mains should be 137 primary 140 secondary, 165 prim. air correction, 160 sec.air correction. 60 prim. idle jet, 50 sec. idle jet. 55 squirter. I got these numbers from the Weber web site.
I'm running 137,155 mains 165,160 air corretion and 50,55 idle jets.65 squirter. My air correction jets were way too big (180,210) and running too lean, now its much smoother and only stumbles a little when floored rapidly.

Hope this helps
Also my engine is a 1640
It's EASY.... if you know how.
