how much power is too much

hi guys does anyone know how much power a type 1 trans will hold? and will putting in a super diff with billet side plates help fix the weakness inherent in the swing axle trans. i am going to be putting around 200 to 250 hp to it and didnt know if it would hold it. if not does anyone offer the 091 bus trans in a swing axle set-up

It has a lot to do with how you intend to use the HP.
Dump the clutch and the T1 trans won't last long. Preload it before take off and it'll last a little longer. Don't dump teh clutch at all and it should last many miles.

see thats the thing, i am planning on drag racing it also. i dont plan on dumping it so much as launching at a reasonable rpm, and thing standing on it 2nd thru 4th. thats why i was wondering if it would hold up to very much hp or if a bus trans would be a better choice right from the start.

Ryan, Give Darrell a call and ask him, I thank the trans he has for sale was in his bug with a big a$$ VW engine, that easily turned over 8000 rpm if it held up to that it should be fine.
400 bucks is super cheap, the super diff alone is over $200.

You might want to consider getting the axles replaced, as I've seen 1776's with dual 44's twist the axles completely into. (three times).
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

Don't scare me David O' ! I just had a 1915 built and I'm using a stock trans. By the way, what is the difference between a stock trans and a freeway flyer? I have gotten several answers.

Hello Jack, glad to see you made it over to the club web site. Who did you settle on to build your engine?
