So I'm Looking

Postby CoryN » 20 Tue Jan, 2009 9:21 pm

through past posts, started with the earliest posts and started working my way forward. Lots of useful information on this forum. I seem to pick up a few nuggets every time I do that, something that wasn't pertinent at the time that now has relevance to what I am doing.

It seems there were a lot of user names and a lot of buggies that I'm not seeing here now. Whats become of all of them? No longer in the buggy community?

:?: Nothing really to talk about -

We are now like California, going to the same ole place, and doing the same thing. so what is there to talk about except a date and time. If we had the places like California, it would be interresting every time but here we have COWS and CORN around Salado so new would be better for me and different. OK, everyone can attack me now.........

My health has been the main focus for me, trying to get out of a wheel chair for good.

I plan on doing things right here - any I am considering a high boy roadster ( it has doors I can get in and out without having to climb in ). I figure a dropped bell axle, hairpins, shaved, dropped, roadster with chrome everywhere with a blown engine might be fun. It has doors, something I now will always need due to health

If the club was going to do something different, I might have a change of heart but how much of Salado can you see in three years?

The main reason I look forward to a Club event is not to get to see something new and different every time. What is important to me is getting to enjoy the company of friends with whom I have a common interest. If that happens in the same place for 10 years in a row, it doesn't diminish my eagerness to be around people I love and admire.
For me, it about people, not places.

Bill, I couldn't agree more.

Cory, Some have moved, some have sold there buggies ,others are just busy with day to day life and dont have the time to hang out here with the rest of us buggy fanatics.

Being from the street rod world, I can honestly say that you would never see or experience the same friendliness that you see in the buggy world. The only way you can have friends there is to get into the "click". I could tell instantly that clicks don't exist here. GLAD TO BE HERE!! :D :D

I think that it is the effort of just getting by in this "new" economy. I always liked going to the shows, but the cost has gotten just too high for me to make it.....and that is true about going anywhere.
I don't have a buggy, so the cruises are out for me, and the way that the new finances are, it will be a long time before I can get one.
Nothing against the Salado meeting place....but it is a large number of miles for me to get there. I will say this....Dallas has to be the worst place in the world for hobby cars.....it didn't used to be that way, but it is now.
All of the people I knew that were into cars and clubs are now out of that, raising families, and trying to pay bills. It gets harder and harder to get through the day to day life, and as far as I can tell, here people are only interested in the itchy Dallas Cowboys. (juck)
If at first you don't succeed, beat the pshaw out of the business partner, and then go at it alone! LOL!

Sounds like there may be a need for a North Texas gathering. If I can ever actually get this thing put together and running, maybe I can figure out some kind of interesting gathering up here.

The Downtown McKinney square would be a hit with the ladies, I'll just have to come up with some kind of interesting thing to do with the buggies.

Sounds like a DFW event could be a great reason for some of us Houston-area folks to come up your way. 8-)

Several years ago, David H and Edie hosted a BBQ and poker run at his place in East Texas....that was a lot of fun.

WELL WHEN EVER Y'ALL FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET ALL THESE BUGGIES AROUND NORTH AND EAST TEXAS TOGETHER TO HAVE A GREAT TIME VISITING AND CRUISING THEN Y'ALL LET US KNOW. WE HAVE A FEW COME OUT AND I THINK WE HAVE A GREAT TIME AND DON'T TAKE THIS WRONG I WOULDN' T TRADE THOSE MEMORIES FOR ANYTHING BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO GET ALL BUGGIES IN ANY AREA AT ONE TIME TO BE TOGETHER AND NOT HAVE THE STRESS OF A SHOW .SEEMS AS IF THE ONLY TIME YOU SEE MOST MEMBERS IS AT
A SHOW WHEN EVERYONE IS BUSY GETTING CARS READY TO SHOW . BILL K AND CRIS W HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TOGETHER IN THE SOUTH, JUST WOULD LIKE TO GET TOGETHER FOR A GREAT DAY WITH PEOPLE THAT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY BUILT A BUGGY.

I agree with Ray, It would be nice to get together and just hang out with no show to worry about and do a little cruising. The main problem is that north Texas can't hold a candle to the South Texas and Hill country views. A couple of times a couple of us have gotten together in the Mckinney area for Lunch and a quick drive.

I agree that McKinney would be a great place to meet up with some friends and do a little site seeing and cruising. There is a Great burger place in Prosper that is perfect for car clubs get together for lunch.

I'm just not sure of where to plan a cruise up that way. I'm not familiar with the area around Mckinney. I'm sure there has to be some good driving north of town.

I'll do some thinking on it. I think there are a couple of wineries out north of town, that might be neat. Or maybe something over towards Lake Ray Roberts or something.

I'll put my thinking cap on.

The most often heard comment I get about the Roundup is that folks enjoy not having the pressure of judging and awards. It was the idea of trying a "No Judging" event that gave birth to the Roundup. So, Ray and David, I think you guys are on the right trail.

I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that what we really enjoy is fellowship, and cruising (& eating :D ).

So, I'm glad to hear you guys up NORTH are thinking about doing something up your way. Are there any areas south of DFW (maybe Lake-wise)that would work (I'm trying to stay out of Dallas traffic  )?

I just hadn't posted lately. Looking for a job. I got laid off last week. Trying to find a job in 2009 sucks. Still building the Manxter 2 + 2. Still have the bus, but it's currenly up for sale as that's one thing I can't afford without a job.

Who's out there

Postby MikeL » 29 Thu Jan, 2009 5:54 pm

The yellow buggy going strong. Read the forum couple of times a week.
Times are still good here. Like to see something in the northern part of the state. Bought a boat, wanting to start doing some fishing. Richard its good to know you're still around. Hope all is doing well.
