Appraisals

Postby CoryN » 03 Thu Sep, 2009 1:07 pm

What have you guys done with respect to getting a proper appraisal for insurance purposes? I just added mine to my policy over lunch, but I had no idea what to value it at. I assume it should be a somewhat formal appraisal?

Cory,
Just an educated guess. I just guessed what I thought it would cost to replace it. But I'm just carrying liability.

I just put it at $1000 to start, I wanted to get some coverage so I can go through the inspection process this weekend, I went with full coverage like my other vehicles for now. My agent is out until next week any way. So we just set it up quik until I get everything formalized.

I think they will do it as a classic car policy. I gave them pictures so they know that its not a standard 1961 Volkswagen.

Collect your receipts and ask your agent about a "stated value" policy. That gives your agent information about what they're insuring. Also take pictures of every angle and make sure you, he and his home office has a copy.

I agree here... this is a difficult area on this type of vehicle as there is no set guideline for these cars. Be sure to cover your basis now because I have seen many people get the screws put to them by insurance companies simply because they ASSUMED they were covered. Without the proper coverage your Multi year investment in time and mony becomes a simple low dollar car, because of no appraisal of documentation. GregR is correct, check into stated amount policies or even collector car insurance for these. I have seen pics of alot of your buggies and they are all very nice rides, protect em now. ;-)
Thanks Joe

Cory, check with Grundy Worldwide for an online quote. You can get a quote without buying insurance. Mine was $270 yr. for $20,000 coverage.
The owner of the company is a car nut like us and sympathizes with us. :)

STATED VALUE POLICY...enough said....

Cory, they will insure it based on what you want to pay. I got mine at $6500 without an appraisal. Your premium is set per $1000 of coverage and its a full coverage comp and collision.

You don't need an appraisal if you go with Grundy. All they need is three pictures form three angles and an interior shot. :)

Most of the major companies want you to insure all your vehicles before they insure the buggy, or at the same time you insure all vehicles. :)
