I get about 20 mpg with a 1776 with dual kadrons.
An 11 gallon gas tank but because of the angle that the tanks sits in the body, I only have about 8 usable gallons. So about 160 miles on a tank full

Gas Milage

I'm always interested in the gas milage of buggies. I run a stock 1600 and get about 25 to 28 mpg. The buggy I had before my current daily driver got about the same until I went to a larger wheel and tire size on the back. I don't remember what it dropped to, but I noticed the difference.
The best milage I got was traveling from McKinney to the buggy Blast two years ago, 200 miles each way. I drove nice and easy, 60 miles per hour. Got about 40 mpg.

When our buggy's 1600cc engine was basically stock (header, open element air cleaner & a 130 main jet), around town she got 18-20 mpg. Out on the freeway/highway about 21-22 mpg & off-road it dropped to about 16-17 mpg.
Then I added 1.25 ratio rocker arms, dual Kadron 40mm carbs setup by AJ Sims & a CompuFire DIS IX "distributorless" ignition system & the fuel mileage became about the same whether off-road, highway/freeway or around town... 16 mpg. However, the increase in torque & horsepower was well worth the drop in fuel mileage.
1600cc, stock cam, stock heads, Tri-Mil 4 into 1 Bobtail Quiet-pak exhaust system, 1.25 rockers, dual Kadrons, CompuFire ignition system.
4.37 R&P stock tranny gears. 28" tall rear tires.
I have driven her to a bit over 100 mph several times & she was smooth & steady!
It'll be very interesting to see how well the reverse-rotation 140hp+ Corvair engine I'm going to install does in the fuel mileage catagory.

I guess they don't call you Maniac for nothing.

Just as I posted... a stock geared transaxle with a 4.37 R&P & 28" tall tires. It's only about 4700 rpms in 4th gear.
BTW... I hit 103-104 mph twice in one day & my wife was with me!!!
It was Easter Sunday about 5 years ago heading northbound on the I-5 freeway heading for Bakersfield to have the world's best Chinese food!!!
